Working through a kitchen remodel and planning to repaint the walls White Dove BM Regal Select in Eggshell finish. I would like to match the new, primed trim/doors to also be White Dove in a different sheen for some contrast - either semi gloss or satin. However, my painter is recommending SW Emerald Urethane over BM Advance for the trim and doors, stating better durability and performance - not sure if this is due to recent BM paint reformulation or if it is strictly personal preference. I know SW can color match White Dove and it will be similar but not exact...looking for advice on what I should do.
It seems I have a few options:

Have the painter use BM Advance in White Dove for an exact match, despite it maybe being a lesser quality product
-
Have the painter color match White Dove in SW Emerald Urethane and live with the color difference
Any advice from paint pros?

I'm a big BM guy but am not a fan of the Advance. It just doesn't feel good to me. I've been using a product called Scuff-X on cabinetry with good results. That being said, if he's confident and comfortable with the Emerald Urethane, it's a good product, I'd choose it over Advance. The SW store should already have the BM colors matched at the corporate level. It should be dead on with no color difference at all.

Well - Emerald Urethane is a Urethane and Advanced is just a standard acrylic waterborne alkyd. The Emerald UTE will have better chemical resistance as a result and has a harder pencil hardness. The Urethane side of the coating will also give the Emerald UTE better yellowing resistance than standard Waterborne Acrylic Alkyds, particularly when exposed to UV light coming through windows. Not to say advanced is bad by any means. The closer product to Advance, though, is Proclassic Waterborne Alkyd.

A few things to keep in mind - when converting oil - i still used enamel undercoater- especially Ben Moore oil- can use advanced if spraying but careful is brushing -runs- thin to win- but i did just try SWP oil stainblocker- still feeling out- not as thick as Ben moore but does powder up when sanding- give time to dry well- lay out not as good a BM but almost half price.

First time painting trim and i want the best result possible.
Which one is better? Looking for a semi gloss trim& baseboard paint which will as well hold up to a roomba bumping against it. (Whatever the previous homeowners used rubs off on the roomba and showed looots of brushmarks). Not sure if it makes a big Difference but the walls are painted in in behr dynasty ultra pure white and it would be great if the trim colour would fit that nicely.
New primed baseboards are installed. Should I prime again? Carpenter used DryDex to fill up nailgun holes and seams which i still need to sand. If yes. What's your best primer recommendation?
As well I read the Purdy XL Elite Glide would be a good brush to use since bristles should be softer. I mostly just do cutting and corners (wallpaint) and use the Wooster 2 in shortcut angled brush. Not sure of that would be any good.
Besides good product I'm aware that I need to sand in between coats. I 220 good for that?

You can sand if you want but not necessary. Ask for an extender to add to your paint to slow drying time & allow the paint to spread out as it dries. Also, you need to watch if you're painting vertical for runs due to too heavy of a coat. When you have the paint spread as you want it, lightly brush over it to ease the depth of the brush marks. Heavy, hard brush strokes on setting paint leaves heavy brush marks. Should not touch setting paint unless there are runs. Hit runs with a wet brush to see if they move. If not, use a damp cloth to wipe them away then repaint.

Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane dries faster and only one coat. I would mix can, use a filter bag and pour into a handheld brush cup. Tape the walls if you aren't good at brush work. Purdy and Wooster are good brushes. Comes down to cost for me. I like the shortcut version since some trim is close to wall/corners. I used timbermate to fill holes and caulk for gaps/joints. 220 is fine. Even 0000 over snots if you are that anal. (vision with age and I don't notice, especially when white finish).

Aura satin passed my fingernail scratch test, but not sure how it would hold up overtime when on baseboards and interior doors being opened and closed a lot. May 13, 2022 - Advance rolls on great but takes far too long to dry and cure, especially if you plan to live in there at the same time. Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel dries a lot faster, but ProClassic is even faster, and rolls on really well with a foam roller if you thin it and add some of GF's Extender.

Which would you prefer for cabinets and trim? I am having both painted. The contractor is pushing me towards BM, but says he’ll use either one for the same cost. I’ve seen mixed opinions on which is better. Thank you!

I prefer the BM paints to the SW. i have both in my house - and prefer to paint with BM, but will say the finish of the SW does seem slightly better. (Might just be the rooms the paint is in and how the light reflects?)

I just called my S&W. I can get Emerald Urethan in white, semi gloss for $59 per gallon. I don't use them a lot as I don't paint that much anymore. I would suspect a full-time painters price would be considerably lower. Just an FYI...they told me they had Emerald Urethan gallons in mis-tints....at $7.00 per gallon.
