The U.S.-China Trade Relationship: What’s Behind the Competition? | Council on Foreign Relations
March 1, 2022 - A central focus of Trump’s second administration is addressing what it considers an unfair trade imbalance between Washington and its major trading partners, including Beijing. Trump ended the de minimis exception on Chinese goods a month into his presidency, which allowed items of less than $800 to be imported into the United States without paying customs duties, and imposed a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods. Over the following months, China retaliated, resulting in the two countries rapidly escalating their tariffs on imported goods from the other. By April 2025, this reached a height of 145 percent tariffs on Chinese goods entering the United States, and a 125 percent tariff on U.S. imports to China. Trump and Xi met in South Korea in October 2025 for the first time since Trump’s second term. Though there was no formal agreement, the two sides extended a trade truce reached in Geneva in May 2025 by another year.

Shipping Delays with China Post?
It's been 10 days since it moved? Shipped from China when you expected it from the US? I'd say you've waited long enough. I'd go ahead and start the process of getting your refund for item hasn't arrived. As it is Ebay will likely put you on hold a little longer, so you might as well start the process. You can always cancel it if the item arrives. Don't be tricked by the seller into canceling your "item hasn't arrived" case until it actually does arrive or you get your refund. More on reddit.com

Container shipping delays in 2021 – What happened and why? - Sandhar Trucking
October 19, 2023 - One would think that this rise in shipping costs and delays would ease as the flow of goods resumed and the backlog of exports in China was taken care of. But, this was not the case. It turns out there is an actual increase in demand for physical products as consumers in wealthy countries shift their spending. As customers divert their dollars away from experiences, travel, movies, dinner, etc., they, in turn, spend more money on new products. Global events also play a role in impacting shipping costs and schedules. The episode in the Suez Canal definitely didn’t help ease prices and in fact, contributed to more pressure on the demand for containers. Port Metro Vancouver is a major player in the Pacific Gateway and is responsible for the flow of billions of dollars worth of goods per year. As a leading provider of transportation and warehousing in BC with authorized access to all major ports and rails, we are well-versed in the latest changes and developments related to shipping, truck

The cost to send a container from Asia to the United States on the demand-sensitive spot market has tumbled more than 80% from its September peak above $20,000 for a 40-foot container, according to freight booking platform Freightos. Stacked containers are shown as ships unload their cargo at the Port of Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California, U.S. November 22, 2021. REUTERS/Mike Blake (Reuters Photos) Major carriers like Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) and A.P. Moller-Maersk also are expecting delivery of hundreds of new container ships, which amplifies risk as carriers already have more ships than they need to handle shrinking demand. China Increasingly Relies on Imported Food. That’s a Problem. | Council on Foreign Relations
January 25, 2023 - Data from the country’s National Bureau of Statistics showed that in 2022, China’s grain output reached a record high of 686.53 million tons [page in Chinese] despite delayed plantings, extreme weather, and COVID-19 disruptions. China ranks first globally in producing cereals (such as corn, wheat, and rice), fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, eggs, and fishery products. Despite its domestic production, China has been a net importer [DOC] of agricultural products since 2004. Today, it imports more of these products—including soybeans, corn, wheat, rice, and dairy products—than any other country. Between 2000 and 2020, the country’s food self-sufficiency ratio decreased from 93.6 percent to 65.8 percent. Changing diet patterns have also driven up China’s imports of edible oils, sugar, meat, and processed foods. In 2021, the country’s edible oil import-dependency ratio ...

Supply bottlenecks leave ships stranded, businesses stymied - Washington Times
March 21, 2021 - “The price can be as much as five times as usual,” says Craig Wolfe, whose company, CelebriDucks, has had problems getting rubber ducks from China since the start of the pandemic. One of Wolfe’s shipments sat on the dock for three weeks because there were no railcars available. Another that he expected to be shipped by mid-February still hasn’t left China. “It would have arrived by now,” says Wolfe, whose company is based in Kelseyville, California. He’s anxious because most of his products aren’t typical rubber ducks - they’re based on presidents and other celebrities and pop culture trends like the Harry Potter books and movies. Like Mann, he’s placed some larger-than-usual orders to be sure he has enough stock. Exporters are also feeling the impact of the bottlenecks. When containers are unloaded at the ports, many are being sent empty back to Asia instead of being held and filled with U.S. goods. Empty shipping containers pile up in LA while China has shortage - Washington Examiner
October 25, 2021 - The Port of Los Angeles with containers, ships and trucks is shown on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 13, 2021. President Joe Biden announced a deal to expand operations at the Port of Los Angeles in hopes of ending the logjam of ships waiting to unload. The supply chain squeeze has caused climbing prices and delays in delivery that are threatening the U.S. economy and holiday shopping. (Dean Musgrove/The Orange County Register via AP) ... Los Angeles ports are buried under 40-foot shipping containers, but across the sea, Chinese businesses are begging for them. As the ubiquitous steel boxes clog the ports, local streets, and seemingly any unused lot around the coast, both California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia have jumped into action alleviating red tape that had curtailed storage options. Here's how Cory Booker held the Senate floor for 25 hours straight ·
