Hey folks,
I'm a new homeowner looking to pick up a shop vac. Rigid seems highly recommended, and I've seen some advice to get the highest peak HP possible (with the caveat that a 20A circuit can only really deliver 2.5hp). I see Home Depot has two different Rigid 6.5hp vacs, one with a detachable blower and the other without. Is one of these recommended over the other?

Also, is 16gal TOO big? I haven't gone to the store to check these out in person. This thing will mostly hang out in my garage, but I also plan on dragging it out to my deck when I sand/refinish.

The Ridgid ones are great. The lifetime warranty is no joke either, I've used it and it was seamless. The detachable blower feels gimmicky to me, personally... you can just swap the hose to the exhaust port (it's made for that) and your vac is a blower; you don't need to detach it to bring it out and blow leaves with it. I assume... Get the 6.5, and use it for the next decade or more. Also, i personally highly recommend getting a cyclone separator at some point too: your filters will last unbelievably longer, particularly if you ever do drywall dust. I use the Oneida, but they make knockoffs now that look very similar. As far as size: you want the biggest motor. The storage doesn't matter hardly ever. I've never been in a situation where 9 gallons wouldn't have cut it... however I don't think you can get the strongest motor in a smaller form factor, so you just have to accept the trade off.
