For integrating Shopify with Google Ads and Analytics effectively, the Google and YouTube Channel app for Shopify indeed facilitates a direct connection. However, ensure you've correctly configured all aspects: Check Installation: Confirm the Google and YouTube Channel app is properly installed and linked to your Google Ads and Analytics accounts. Configure Google Analytics: In your Shopify admin, ensure Google Analytics is correctly set up, including enabling eCommerce tracking for more detailed reporting. Verify Google Ads Link: Make sure your Google Ads account is linked to your Google Analytics account for seamless data sharing. Test Tracking: Use tools like Google Tag Assistant or the real-time reports in Google Analytics to verify tracking is operational. Simulate a test transaction if possible. Use UTM Parameters: For deeper insights and to track the effectiveness of specific campaigns, ads, or mediums, utilize UTM parameters in your URLs. Monitor Performance: Regularly check the Conversions section in Google Ads and the eCommerce section in Google Analytics to ensure data consistency. While the app simplifies integration, actively monitoring and occasionally reviewing the setup is crucial for catching any discrepancies early. Additionally, consider leveraging the Google Tag Manager if you're implementing advanced tracking setups or integrating other marketing tools for a centralized management solution. Always test before launching campaigns to avoid data tracking issues. Answer from Launchpresso on reddit.com

New Shopify Store Running Google Ads – Should I Optimize Only for Purchases or Also Include Page Views/Add to Cart?
If your store is brand new to Google Ads, it’s smart to set up both primary (purchases) and secondary (micro-conversions like ATC, checkout, page views). Optimizing only for purchases at the start can limit data and slow down Google’s learning, especially if sales are low. By tracking micro-conversions too, you give the algorithm more signals to find quality traffic. Once you start getting consistent sales, you can shift focus toward purchase optimization only. Think of it like training wheels micro-conversions help Google learn faster, but your end goal should always be sales. More on reddit.com

r/PPC on Reddit: Integrating Shopify with Google Ads and Analytics for Conversion Tracking: Do I Need to Configure Anything Else?
March 7, 2024 -

Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of connecting my Shopify store with Google Ads and Analytics to ensure effective tracking of my advertising campaigns, especially tracking purchases. From my research, I've gathered that installing the Google and YouTube Channel app for Shopify should allow a direct connection with Google Ads and Analytics, theoretically enabling purchase tracking without additional configurations.

Here are my specific questions:

  1. Integration Requirements: Do I really only need the Google and YouTube Channel app for Shopify to activate purchase tracking, or are there hidden settings or additional steps I need to be aware of? Specifically, I'm wondering if I need to configure the Google Tag Manager or any other tools.

  2. Verification of Tracking: How can I make sure that the tracking is working correctly before I actually start running ad campaigns? Is there a way to test the tracking of purchases in real-time to ensure that all data is correctly transmitted to Google Ads and Analytics?

  3. Best Practices: Does anyone have experience with this integration and can share best practices or tips, particularly regarding verifying tracking data or avoiding common pitfalls?

I want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly before investing money into ad campaigns and would greatly appreciate advice or guidance from the community.

Thank you in advance!

r/googleads on Reddit: New Shopify Store Running Google Ads – Should I Optimize Only for Purchases or Also Include Page Views/Add to Cart?
August 27, 2025 -

Hey everyone,
I recently started running Google Ads for my Shopify store. The website itself has been around for a while, but I just launched ads (Search, Remarketing, and Shopping campaigns).

I’m wondering what’s the best approach when it comes to setting up conversion goals. Right now, my main focus is on purchases, but since the store is still new to ads, I don’t have much conversion data yet.

Should I keep my conversion goal strictly as purchases, or would it be smarter in the beginning to also include micro-conversions like page views, add to cart, initiate checkout, etc. to help the campaigns learn faster?

Has anyone here had experience with new Shopify stores and Google Ads in this stage? Any advice would be super appreciated 🙏

Keep your primary goal as Purchases Ultimately, you want Google to optimize for revenue, not just clicks or adds-to-cart. If you change the primary goal to micro-conversions, Google will start optimizing toward the wrong signal (e.g. lots of cart adds but no purchases). Track micro-conversions, but don’t make them primary goals Set up events like add to cart, begin checkout, payment info entered, newsletter signup. Mark them as secondary conversions in Google Ads. This gives you visibility into the funnel and lets you create audiences for remarketing, without confusing Smart Bidding. Use “Maximize Clicks” or “Maximize Conversions (without target ROAS/CPA)” at first If you have <30 conversions per month, tCPA/tROAS will struggle. Once you start getting 30–50+ purchases in a 30-day window, switch to Smart Bidding (tROAS is usually best for Shopping). Leverage Enhanced Conversions + Google Analytics 4 Shopify’s native GA4 + Google Ads integration ensures accurate data. Enhanced conversions (EC) improve match rate, feeding Google more reliable purchase data.
