September 5, 2024What's the best option for Shopify POS card readers/terminals (in Canada)
The best option is Square. It's stable and connects well. Shopify POS still isn't stable enough for retail IMHO, so I run my online site through Shopify, and my retail store on Square, they come together in QuickBooks. Yes it's more pain for me to reconcile, but it makes the customer experience so much better. More on reddit.com

I'm considering Shopify POS for our clients and I'd love to hear about your day-to-day experiences with it. We're looking to streamline their operations, so any insights would be super helpful.

Ecom & bricks and mortar. It works great and is the cheapest when everything is factored in. Thought about leaving, did the maths and Shopify is like 50% cheaper here in Aus.

They have made tremendous improvements to the app, especially recently. They have also worked on including a lot of new features that were previously not connected, like accepting purchase orders from Stocky, taking orders to be fulfilled from another location (Ship from store), and returns with exchanges at a different location than the original purchase. Some things to keep in mind: Use current or previous edition iPads. The app is quite demanding, especially with large catalogs. Make sure you have strong and stable Wi-Fi. Frequent weaknesses in the signal can cause unexpected issues, especially when processing payments. Make sure you have at least one staff member on-site with enough permissions to unlock the POS device when it needs to be updated or reset. Otherwise your staff may be locked out of the device until someone with such permissions completes the login.
