Short words that mean a lot?
Hahaha Unitican has tons of these. Ill feature 3. The prefix "Fý-" indicated that something is done out of hope for serendipity, not doing it to actually achieve something. For example going to a supermarket not to buy stuff, but to see if theres anything on offer or discount that might pique your interest. Rý is a problematic word to translate in English, but the most accurate thing to say about it is that it deals with time. "Rý" is most commonly used to express future/past time hypotheticals and questions in hypotheticals in time. Here are some examples of usage. Rý zýlem? - When will it be done? Rý, ya zýto - When it is time, I will do it. Rý, ya fean't n jus'rin - At that time in the past, i ate an apple. Cyain is my favourite, and it translates to "as you wish" or "as your heart pleases". First draft finished, 34,000 words. Too short for all the "publishing guides" I see posted around. How do I increase the word count without killing my story?
Do you have an A plot and a B plot? Or just an A plot? Add a secondary plot--involving side characters, or just an additional, plotty/conflicty thing for your characters. In general, add conflict. Give your characters more things to do--things that relate to their character arcs, not just filler. I like to look to the Blake Snyder Beat Sheet when I'm unsure if I've hit enough of the "classic" story elements. http://timstout.wordpress.com/story-structure/blake-snyders-beat-sheet/ More on reddit.com

Short function words and particles
I stumbled on a Wikipedia page with a list of Japanese particles with the traditional names for different kinds: Japanese_particles (Oddly enough, zo is missing.) For years I was determined that Pkalho-Kölo would have zero particles; there would be content words, pro-forms and affixes, that's it. Only fairly recently I realised that I already have a class of adverb/particles: they can often take the stative suffix -la and form a one-word utterance, but can never head a clause. One that I'm now overusing is inë, which I gloss 'in.fact', though I suppose it's a focus marker: inëla means, 'Well, Gosh, Heavens,' or something of that nature. A couple of other examples are mikä, 'who/what else but,' tinu, sole and sufficient reason, kopre, 'it's a fact that...; you know...' ilka, unlikely condition, 'if only...; if it were to....' r/conlangs on Reddit: Short words that mean a lot?
April 18, 2016 -
What are some words in your conlang that is short but means something complex? Or it could be not short but mean a lot more than people might expect.
I'll start off with some examples from my natlang, Japanese:
ぺらぺら (perapera) - an onomatopoeia for being able to speak a foreign language fluently
苦労人 (kuroujin) - in my Japanese-English dictionary it is defined as: "a man who understands other's problems (because he has had a hard time himself)"
What are some of your words that mean a lot?
