Hello!
Im 26 years old and have an associates degree, I’m doing a career change from Finance. I realized that going to bootcamp is not worth it , and pursuing a CS degree would help me get a job. It should take me about 2 years to finish but meanwhile I go through those classes I want to self learn, build my skills, get my portfolio going.
My goal is to become a web developer(front end preferably) or even backend if I end up liking it.
My first 2 classes at the university are python related, so would it make sense for me to go all in on Python by taking self learning courses through udemy or youtube? and worry about learning JavaScript later? I already know html, css and a little bit of JavaScript but I’m not sure if its doable learning python and JavaScript at the same time. Has anyone tried learning python and JavaScript at the same time?

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to be a web developer, learn Javascript. Javascript is the only language used on the frontend and also can be used in the backend (Node.js).
Sure, python has simpler syntax, but if you're really interested in webdev then you might as well start getting used to Javascript and then its libraries and frameworks once you learn fundamentals.
Edit: Also it's definitely a good idea to not go to a bootcamp unless you're really REALLY bad at motivating yourself to learn. There are so many free resources online.

Javascript dev here. It really depends on what you want to do. I don’t think Java or javascript are going away any time soon. Android apps (Java primarily, you can use js sorta) are not going to go out of style. Web apps will always be necessary. If you want to pick up development quicker javascript is the way to go. If you don’t mind having a learning curve (which you could argue is better for you in the long run) try Java out.

Java. JS is a shitshow of a language, it's not a good one to start with, you'll learn bad habits. It's better to learn a more structured language as your first one. Both have a big future, but it doesn't really matter, once you've learned one language, the next will be lot easier, the one after that, easier still.

When I picked up programming I started with Python but now mainly use Java. I want to do frontend so I just recently started learning JavaScript. Before I thought JavaScript was a language for frontend only, but now I realized that it could be used for backend and I'm thinking why don't people recommend JavaScript since it has the same concepts as Python and Java but it has more uses?

JavaScript doesn't have more uses than Python. Both can be used for pretty much anything and I'd argue there's more use cases Python is better suited for than vice versa. I'd say if you're going for web development, use JavaScript. If you're going for anything else, use Python. Except if you specifically want to write for OS stuff or embedded systems. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter which language you choose to learn first.

I don't recommend JS as a first language because of how weak the typing is, and how messy or smelly you can make your code and have it still "work." There are a lot of languages out there that have the same issues and I don't recommend those as a first language either for the same reason. Java, Python and C# are all decent first languages though, as their strictness will help you develop good habits that will serve you well in less strict languages.

If you have any experience with html/css you'd probably find JavaScript to have a more immediate sense of applicable value just because of how easy it is to plug into webdesign, which in turn may be helpful in keeping you motivated to learn. Both are fine beginners choices for though, although Python generally is considered a go to language for learning a first programming language. I'd suggest trying some tutorials for both and seeing which feels more in tune with what will help you learn, because odds are if you stick it out you'll end up learning both anyway. Edit: I saw in another comment you plan to make games. Again depending on what you're aiming for both have good existing game engines. I started learning Python through making visual novels with Renpy, but I learned JavaScript through making small rpgs and platformers through Phaser. Neither language is optimal for game programming if you want to get fancy, but both languages are capable of helping you make games.
