Right. Each program/app has a purpose in life. However, I too traditionally tend to like 'lean installs'. AFAIK, none of that Dell software is required for Windows-10/11 to run properly on a Dell laptop. I haven't looked at it real close since I was trying to run it as Dell shipped it. I kinda wanted to see what that experience is like for the average user. I don't worry so much about pre-installed programs that keep to themselves (the ones that have no associated Processes and Services that are constantly running in the background).  What I like to do is observe what Processes and Services are running, before properly uninstalling it's associated program the conventional way (and rebooting). Also, interesting to see what is still left behind. Actually, it doesn't seem too bad so far. I think it might be because these recent 11th-12th Gen Intel processors are just so powerful (plenty of cores and extra processing cycles to go around). Right. I always uninstall the (paid subscription) McAfee and replace with (Microsoft developed and freely included) Windows Security and their (software based) Firewall. It also seems less intrusive. MyDell already wanted to update itself, and said something about Dell Fusion. Not sure about now or on plain Dells, but Alienware Fusion used to be a Service that exposed various Windows Settings into a centralized app (like Alienware Command Center). It sometimes got confused or caused strange system problems so I always thought it was un-necessary (or not worth the trouble).  I don't use any of the 'Driver Updater programs'. Now-days, I get my drivers from Microsoft (Windows Update) and/or Nvidia/AMD. Rarely do I need a Dell validated file. I do get my occasional firmware and BIOS updates directly from Dell Support file-area and like to install those manually and in a more-controlled way. In the BIOS, I also keep UEFI Firmware Capsule Updates DISABLED (in case Windows-Updates tries to toss me one). As I glance-down that nice list you compiled, I think these 3 listed below are the only ones I might be compelled to keep. But if they don't do anything (or just ads or apps for subscriptions and/or In-App-Purchases) I think they ultimately need to be uninstalled as well.  Dell PremierColorDolby AccessDolby Vision Extensions Some people just 'clean install' generic/genuine Windows to get rid of all the Dell (or other manufacture's) un-wanted software ... but that is a quite a bit more involved procedure (especially on a live machine). Please post any additional info you come across (that you think might be helpful to others) as you uninstall the un-wanted ones (or find actual purpose for others). Answer from Tesla1856 on dell.com

r/Dell on Reddit: Dell Core Services preinstalled App
May 10, 2023 -

Hey there!

Does anybody know what this "Dell Core Services" application is, that is preinstalled on newly Dell systems? (Latitude 5530 in this casebut but also saw it on Precisions)

I think they started preinstalling this app when Dell switched from shipping the systems with Win 10 22H2 instead of 21H2, because older systems but same model did not had this preinstalled.

I cant'f find any information at dell.com nor does this app gets listed when searching for drivers etc. at dell support.

r/Dell on Reddit: Can't uninstall Dell Core Services
December 4, 2024 -

I have a lot of computers at home and at work, but my daily driver at home is an old Precision 380 in which none of the parts are original except the case and the motherboard (not even the CPU, which I replaced with the very underrated Pentium Extreme Edition). So it's dated, but with the memory maxed out and with a GeForce Titan in there, it suits my needs quite decently; I like gaming on a PC, but most of my PC gaming is plodding through stacks of games I bought years (decades?) ago and still haven't played or finished, and if I want to play something newer I just use my Gen 9 gaming console.

Due to a hard drive going bad, I did a fresh Win10x64 install on a new drive 3 years ago, and haven't installed much else on it besides web browsers, Office, the Steam client and a few Steam games, the Blizzard client and a few Blizzard games, and a few games from GOG. It has been running great since the fresh install... until starting last week.

I had not had any Dell apps on there; at worst I had a couple of Dell drivers. But last week on 11/27/2024, Windows Update decided that it needed to install Dell Core Services and Alienware Update on there. And that's when everything went to hell.

I noticed an immediate and drastic slowdown of my system. There was a service called Dell Data Management that would claim >5GB of RAM and 25% of my CPU cycles; another culprit, though not as bad, was Dell Instrumentation. Their system utilization would continue to grow as the system uptime increased - and usually, by the time I was ready to shut down the system, I actually could not do so without first task-killing the Dell Data Management service.

Sorting my app list in reverse installation order, the most recent entry was Alienware Update, so I removed it first, and did a few reboots, etc. Doing so had no real effect; Alienware Update was gone from the Apps list, but the DDM and DI services were still around hogging up my resources.

So this morning I attempted to uninstall Dell Core Services. The process seemed to complete successfully. But nothing happened; DCS is still there in the Apps list, multiple reboots later, and DDM and DI are still running as resource-hogging services.

Does anybody have any ideas? The oldest System Restore Point I seem to have is 11/29, which is two days after the update of damnation. And anyway, I would prefer the more straightforward approach of uninstalling this uninstallable Dell bloatware if I can.
