From the Python website, download the MSI version of Python you wish to install.

Then open your command prompt and use this command:

msiexec /a python-2.7.10.msi /qb TARGETDIR=C:\python27

Substitute python-2.7.10.msi, if you downloaded Python 3 and adjust your TARGETDIR to where you want it to go.

The /qb flag will give you a small dialog progress bar.

Right-click the file and choose “Run as administrator”. If you’re not an admin, a User Account Control dialogue will pop up asking for the admin password. If you can’t provide this, simply click “No”. This will run the installer without admin privileges. Step 3: Customize Installation In the Python setup window, you’ll see two installation options: “Install Now” and “Customize Installation”. Since you’re installing without admin rights, you should select “Customize Installation”.

Changing Python Version on Windows with no Admin Privileges
November 27, 2023 - Since I don't have administrator access on my Windows PC (thanks IT, love your work), I need to untick "Install launcher for all users" because that will ask for admin credentials as it attempts to install Python somewhere like: C:\Python38. Instead, installing as a user places it somewhere like: C:\User\john\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python38\python.exe. I tick "Add to Path" because obviously I want to be able to type python in order to use it. This is what the install window should look like (By default the top box is ticked and the bottom one isnt, so you need to do this manually).

r/learnpython on Reddit: How do I check if a python package needs 'admin' privileges?
September 28, 2024 -

For some work, I'm on a restricted laptop without admin rights in Windows.

I want to use this package: https://pypi.org/project/XlsxWriter/
I also need some plotting libs in the future, such boxplots, ggplot-like libraries (grammar of graphics), etc.

Those are installable and work without admin rights, yes?

I think some packages starting servers and doing system level stuff might need admin rights. So where do I look up whether a package needs 'admin' rights to work?
