I did a design with home depot. Picked the 15 thomasville cabinets with a large pantry cabinet, all the features I wanted. They ended up costing $26,000 in total. Pretty ridiculous. But they had a 30% off special going that would knock the price down to $16k. Which I'm thinking isn't too bad. Only thing is the deal ends in 2 days and I have to make this decision before I was quite ready.
Is this 30% off deal truly a good value that might not come around again soon?

The simple fact is that NONE of the chain home improvement stores do remodeling. Each and every job is carried out by local independent contractors. No store employee will ever step foot in your home. So the conflicting information actually concerns hundreds or thousands of companies who've agreed to accept referrals from the Big Box stores. Small wonder few of the reviews agree with each other. As for charging more? That is your responsibility, not theirs. You want to know what a fair a reasonable price is for installing cabinets, countertops, a sink, and backsplash? GET. MULTIPLE. QUOTES. Can't tell you how many times we've said this on r/HomeRenovations . I worry that we sound like a broken record. But the only way to compare labor (and material) rates is to get three or more quotes for jobs you are considering. Labor and materials vary wildly across North America. What might be a $15K reno in Alabama could be $50K (or more) in the Bay Area. So do your research to protect yourself. More on reddit.com

Those stores don't "do" kitchen remodeling. They just send it out to local contractors to come in and give you a quote. They're typically on the high end of pricing for what they do. The biggest problem I have with them though tends to be the constant fight between who's responsible for what - contractors vs store. I'm not saying don't use them, just be aware of what it is - it's not HD/Lowes doing the remodel. More on reddit.com
