I'm working on freshening up my resume currently. I work in the events industry which has sadly been crippled by the pandemic, and I'm looking for another job in my same industry but may have to look elsewhere. I have over 12 years experience in my industry and a strong list of references (clients / industry leaders), so my experience and industry reputation are the strongpoints of my resume.
I have a high school diploma but never graduated college (I have about 1.5 semesters worth of credits at a state college I attended but have never listed it on a resume). I've always listed my High School diploma, but I recently had a trusted colleague look over a draft of my resume and they suggested taking my education section out altogether since I only have the high school diploma.
Should I leave my limited education history in or take it out altogether?
I did not go to college. I graduated high school 15 years ago. But, over the last 10 years I have owned a couple of successful businesses and I just sold my final one. Looking to get away from the business owner life and start a career while I’m still young enough to transition. I don’t see any value in putting that I graduated high school 15 years ago and I am trying to keep my resume to one page and that has already been a bit of an issue. I finally got it squeezed down but if I add an education section it pushes it to two. So I am just curious if ATS will auto reject me with no education section. I have not searched for a job in a long time and I am feeling lost in a lot of aspects of it.
I went to a top 5 ranking high school in my state is that something I should put on my resume or should I just keep high school out all together? Thanks in advance!
I’m 40 and I was homeschooled. I do have a notarized diploma that was accepted by my current employer(university).
I only have a high school education. I have not been to college.
I am thinking of looking for a new job and I’m curious if that should be listed on my resume.
I graduated high school in 2000. I have no secondary education.
I am on my 4th full time job since 16 (1996-2003, 2003-2010, 2010-2022, 2022 to now).
I'm updating my resume for an internal position at my current company.
Should I just drop my lame "My Town High School - 1996 -2000" line from my education section?
I was updating it to be "Licenses/Education" to include those that I have received at this current employer, but including high school as a 40+ year old person just seems lame.
Hi,
I'm a first year college student and just graduated high school last June. I was wondering if I should include my high school in the education section of my resume. I have a couple of clubs that I did in high school on my resume also. I got a 3.5 GPA in high school, do I include this as well? Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance.
I'm entering my senior year in college and, obviously, I'll be looking to start me career soon. My major is in Information Systems. My current resume is pretty full and I've had to narrow the margins and make the text a bit smaller to make it all fit on one page. Once I graduate from college though will I need my High school name or GPA or anything on there? Do employers care about that at all?
If they do look at it do they care that I took AP and IB classes or should I just keep it short and just put where I went and my GPA. Right now my High school section is only about 4 lines but I'm wondering if its necessary at all as I approach graduating.
Thank you.
Hi am 20M and I work in IT. Im looking for a new job right now and have no college experience. That’s not really a problem in this field as their are other ways to make up for it. I have a high school diploma but no sure if I should put that in or if would just be needless information. Thoughts?
I am 19 and in the 2nd semester of my freshman year in college majoring in Physics and Mathematics. I feel like my high school experience may be useful in my application but I have heard that you should not include high school activities in your resume after you've graduated. I am applying for an internship in electronics manufacturing and my high school had offered a "Robotics & Engineering" course (essentially a vocational class) which I took all 4 years. I learned a lot in this class about manufacturing as well as electronics. The course was a dual credit with the local college. Is this appropriate for applications and is there a time limit that these kinds of courses expire?
I am currently a freshman, and I applied to this one research group and they said they wanted to see my resume. I don't really have a proper resume, and I was wondering if I should put my highscool related stuff in my resume. I do know that it is generally not good to put higschool stuff in resume, but since I am freshman, I do not have that much to put on that i did during college(I do have one or two but not a lot esp since school started month ago). so should I put like my stanrdized scores(Ap scores, SAt scores) and GPA under my highscool in my education section? or do I just put in my highschool gpa? or should I even mention my highschool name there??
thank you!
Asking for a friend, actually, lol
TLDR:
They graduated high school in 2009.
They went to undergrad for a year (2009-2010) then dropped out
They've been in the workforce since then (CNA, retail, admin, but server at a restaurant for most of the time, where they are currently)
They've also been slowly working on getting their bachelors at a community college because they're working towards a nursing school
So they're 33 now and trying to find a better job (ideally wfh and decent pay with benefits) where they can not be so tired and underpaid while also focusing on finishing that BA
I'm trying to help them shore up their resume though, and don't know if they should keep the high school on there or they should include the college experience(s) and goals, etc.
Any help is appreciated, thank you!!
Most sites I go to to answer this question are geared towards college students and I have not gone to college. Since I don't have any College experience, should I list High School (nothing special just a public school) or omit the education section entirely. This is my first resume if it wasn't obvious. Ps. The job I'm applying for is a teller at a bank which I have been told accepts people without a college degree.
Add high school. Not including it will make employers think you didn't graduate.
Yes, I list my education starting at 14, because that's the first time you actually get to make a proper choice what you want to do around here, instead of before where most of the lectures is shared/basic stuff.
PS: Plus, that age seems to be a very important time for shaping the future personality / job attitude. So this information (at least to me) seems quite important to convey to any possible employer.
I graduated march 2020
I have a friend who never got their high school diploma/GED, and are currently applying for jobs(stuff like retail, fast food etc.). For their resume should they just omit the education portion or what? I ask since the templates that get posted have a section for education, but in my friend's situation can they just omit that section altogether, or do they put something generic like "High School Graduate" and leave it to not call attention to it?
I'm in my second semester of college and I've never had a job before, other than helping my mom clean houses, but I'm looking to get a part-time job at a restaurant or retail store. I was just wondering if I should include my high school on my resume since I'm not even a year into college.
I have no formal education in technology but i went to school for a year for an unrelated major (aerospace eng) and decided it wasn't for me and that i didn't want to pay thousands of dollars for this. The past 7 years since i left have been great and i've amassed good amount of experience in both sysadmin and webdev, but i wanted to see what others have done when creating a resume without having relevant educational experience.
Should i even include an education section? If i do, should i include the year i went to school? should i include high school? should i include other classes i've taken since (udacity, CS50, coursera, etc.)?
Thanks in advance!
I never joined clubs or sports teams, nor did I do much else. I have excellent grades and a decent GPA. Growing up, no one pushed me to do anything beyond homework. I assumed colleges would secure jobs for top students, but apparently that’s not the case. I heard you need a resume to even secure internships. (Wtf)
