Hi everyone,
I have a pretty standard but outdated 3'x4' shower in my basement that I'm looking to gut down to studs and rebuild. I am a new homeowner and have no experience doing anything like this, but I'd like to think I can do good research and follow instructions well. Wanted to ask around if there's an opinion on the best way to waterproof a tiled shower.
After doing a few dozen hours of youtube/reddit research, there appears to be three general ways of ensuring a tile shower stays waterproof:
Liquid membrane (eg redgard)
Fabric membrane (eg kerdi membrane)
Waterproof boards (eg kerdi board, wedi board)
I'm not in the US, but I estimate the liquid membrane solution will cost me roughly US$300, kerdi membrane will be $500, Kerdi board $750, and Wedi $1300.
I'm not that money sensitive, just want something high quality that is easy to do, so I'm leaning towards Wedi's shower kit system even though it's a bit pricey.
I wanted to check if there's any consensus these days what the best option is, or if there's anything else out there worth looking into.
Thanks!

Cheapest and easiest? Regular drywall on the walls, with Schluter Kerdi membrane and a Schluter shower pan kit.
100% waterproof. Easily applied by a DIY'er and comes with a 10-year warranty.
A much cheaper price-point than Wedi (I'm a certified Wedi installer), much easier than installing Durock (concrete board) and way less of a mess than applying liquid membrane over everything.
