I have a 14-inch MacBook Pro (M3, 16GB) from November 2023. I'm not tech-savvy, but I've recently started editing videos and using Shutter Encoder for encoding. Some projects take over six hours and push the fan into what sounds like overdrive.
I know the fan is protecting the system, but it still worries me. My parents were always hyper-cautious about laptops, so that stuck with me. I can’t shake the feeling that this might be harming it.
I couldn’t find much anecdotal support to quell my fears, so that's why I'm posting. Is this a cause for concern? Or, due to the circumstance and the technology, is this perfectly normal and nothing to think twice about? Thank you.

Your ‘MacBook Pro is up to the task. 16GB of RAM is a little on the low side for video editing. Keep an eye on the Memory Pressure in Activity Monitor. You can avoid transcoding by shooting a format that’s good for editing. For example, if you have an iPhone that supports shooting ProRes, then shoot ProRes. That can take up a lot of storage space, but that’s part of why it’s so good for editing.

Hi Paul and the community,
I'm trying to understand why Shutter Encoder requests macOS Accessibility permissions during installation. I know you've mentioned that the app needs read & write access to input/output folders, but I'm specifically curious about the Accessibility permission request that pops up.
From what I understand, accessibility permissions give apps pretty broad access to control the Mac and access various system information. Since Shutter Encoder is primarily a video encoding tool, I'm wondering what specific functionality requires these permissions.
Is it related to:

System resource monitoring during encoding?
-
Background process management?
-
Interfacing with system-level audio/video components?
-
Something else entirely?
I'd love to understand the technical reason behind this permission request. I'm comfortable granting it since I trust the software, but it would be great to know what functionality I'm enabling.

I can confirm SE17 not working on Mac Studio and Monterey. It get stucked on the logo with a full progress bar. If you delete the app and re-install 16.9 it won't work. My solution was to uninstall via CleanMyMac SE17 and install 16.9. Now everything is fine but I didn't find a way to make SE17 work. Hope I've been helpful ;)

Thank you very much for v17. Everything in Web video is now working as intended when default is selected. However, 'bestvideo+bestaudio' still has all the same problems as before. I may be mistaken here, but it seems like 'default' and 'bestvideo+bestaudio' both use the highest quality available, so would it make sense to remove 'bestvideo+bestaudio' to avoid confusion? Either way, the problem was solved, so it doesn't really matter. All that's missing now is the option to prevent upscaling, and Shutter Encoder will be perfect (imo) :) Thanks again for the update and all your hard work.
