Depends on how much storage you need. I would go for the sideboard. You could put shoes, shoes accessories and doggie things in there. Answer from Meanwhile-in-Paris on reddit.com

r/DesignMyRoom on Reddit: Console Table or Sideboard?
April 26, 2023 -

Hi All, Just looking for some advice. This is my entrance hall/porch, whatever it’s called. I would like to put something between the tall plant and the open doorway. Thinking a console table or a sideboard.

I’m just wondering if a console table would look lost against the tall back wall. And if a sideboard might look too bulky and not really fitting with the minimalist style? The attached pictures aren’t necessarily the exact units I would buy, just an example of the style.

Also, I included a picture of how it used to look. Just for fun!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Which is more versatile, a credenza or a sideboard?
The credenza is usually more versatile because of its restrained design and adaptable height. It transitions among offices, dining rooms, and living spaces without feeling out of place.

January 9, 2025 -

Hey All,

Trying to find a nice console to fit this space. Originally I was contemplating a wall unit but was convinced otherwise by a Reddit member :) wall units are a no - no. lol.

Anyways. I’m looking for a longer piece maybe 80-100” for my 75” TV in route. I have a nice long wall and space to fill.

My current console is 25” high and 20” deep. Less deep inside with the doors closed.

My AVR is about 16.5” deep and barely fits with the wires/connections in the back needing some room. Sometimes when I close the door it hits a knob. That’s how close I am.

I wouldn’t want to go any higher than current set up but I need at least something at least 20 deep (with doors) or 16.5” deep (without doors or completely open shelf to fit my AVR.

Many consoles just aren’t deep enough. I see a ton around 14-15” deep. Am I just looking in the wrong places.

Something like this would be cool but measurements are way under for where the AVR will sit. Depth and even height of shelf.

See existing set up and example of new console.

September 16, 2024 -

I just bought a 55 inch frame TV and I’m trying to decide what furniture to go beneath it (it will be mounted on the wall). I had just ordered a TV stand that is 22 inches tall, but then I realized that I may be better off getting a sideboard so I can mount the tv a little higher without it looking odd. I will be using the TV as art more the majority of the time. Any advice?

If I go with a sideboard - does it have to have holes for cable management? Or can I place the box on the floor beneath the sideboard?

Hey Y'all! I'm currently in the market for a media console and absolutely fell in love with this Ellington from WestElm. However, it's pretty pricy so I'm hoping to find a cheaper alternative.

The issue I'm having is that I can't find anything similar to this type of style (love the ridge texture and curved ends). Anyways, this is my SOS regarding help for finding a similar media console! Ideally, I would like something around 80' length and black but I'm open to other ideas.

June 18, 2021 -

Hi All! I’m picking out a new TV — top choice right now is a LG C1 65”. With the stand, the specs read that it will be over 70lbs (32kg). I need a new media stand/console but for this TV’s weight, it is proving somewhat challenging to find something that supports the weight or that is not massive. I can not mount it to the wall because of construction limitations and the size of the console can’t really exceed 70-75” because of other items along the wall. Wondering if anyone has any suggests or creative solutions?

For the record, I’ve looks at lots of furniture companies (West Elm, Crate and Barrel, etc.) but get into the conundrum mentioned above of too big (or very expensive) or not designed to support the weight (or it will take 6 months to get the stand). Decor is modern, Scandinavian design elements, wood, cement, metal.

Would love the wisdom and thoughts of this sub!

r/hometheater on Reddit: Is it stupid to spend the same amount on the media console as my home theater system?
April 28, 2021 -

Following up my post from a few days ago, I’m in the process of upgrading from my s/b to a proper 5.1.2 system.

While I’ve already decided on the speakers:

Kef Q550 LR $1200

Q650C C $700

Q150 Surrounds $600

SVS PB 1000 for sub $500

I’ve realized my current media console is too small to house the center speaker and AVR (Denon 750h), so I’ve been trying to find a replacement that can take the weight of my Samsung Q90T (110 lbs), Q650c(30lbs) and the Denon ( 20lbs). The only thing I’ve found so far is the BDI corridor 8179 with a 175lb weight limit but it’s almost $3000 lol, the same amount I will be spending on my actual speakers. Am I stupid for doing this? Or can anyone recommend something else that have a 150lb weight rating or higher?

Any advice is appreciated.
