Silk Insert + Duvet Cover
Tbh, if you want a really good entry-level silk insert to test the waters, so to speak, to see if silk is for you then IKEA has some really, really cheap ones (light warm and warm) and they're pretty lightweight in terms of silk fill. IKEA has odd sizes so if you want to get a Queen duvet cover you can usually get a King size from IKEA for their silk inserts that will pretty snugly fit inside of a normal Queen duvet cover. I heavily recommend getting a duvet cover that's smaller than the duvet insert so sliding isn't a huge issue (it drives people nuts... me included). I think the Full/Queen silk insert size from IKEA is 86Wx86L and the King size from IKEA is 102W x 86L, so they tend to run really small, overall. Or, if you want an insert that's a little bit bigger size-wise and fill-weight-wise then the one from Costco (SilkHaven) is what I use and it's pretty shitty quality overall (crunchy outershell and a bit of a funky smell at first) but it does a pretty good job as an all-season silk insert and they have a pretty good return policy in case you don't like it at all. It will have the more substantial weight between it and the IKEA, though. IKEA's fill weight is 30 ounces vs SilkHaven's 70 ounces so there's a huge difference between the two, but if you want to get something really super-cooling then the summer weight ones will be best if your room temps are semi-high (72F+) and you sleep hot. Mommesilk, THXSilk, ElleSilk, LilySilk, DaniaDown, Ocochi, etc --- all of these will do very well for you and most of them will be very similar in terms of quality with some that are just a hair nicer than other (usually in terms of the outershell fabric/construction) or in terms of how much silk fill they put in it. Regarding linen duvet covers for the duvet inserts: That was the trickiest thing, honestly, and I bought my linen duvet cover first to ensure that it would fit my SilkHaven (108W x 98L) insert properly and wouldn't slide all over the place. I ended up getting a Super King duvet cover (112W x 100L) and the only silk comforter that would decently fit it was the SilkHaven (I hadn't discovered DaniaDown by this point and they also, sadly, don't have an all-season weight). The linen duvet cover shrunk a few inches (thank god) and so now my SilkHaven is basically oversized inside of the duvet cover (since it isn't washed at all and keeps its 108W x 98L dimensions forever). That's the beauty of linen or cotton: it will shrink an inch or two both ways so if it's not small enough for your duvet insert when you first buy it, after washing it it will likely be if it's an inch or two bigger out of the package :) This is the best way to 'cheat' all the weird silk insert sizes that China pumps out. Cozy Earth is one of the very, very few all-season silk inserts that has a really nice dimension sizing (112W x 100L). Honestly, that's the only reason I'd pay their exorbitant price for their silk insert --- the really convenient and large sizing they have on their inserts :\ Though if you want a custom-sized duvet insert you can always get one, you know? Mommesilk and Ocochi (at the very least) do custom-sizes for an upcharge and these are the only ones that I know about so far. The others might do so as well (I never asked them), in case you're interested. Custom sizing will take longer and more money but if you want to get a really awesome duvet cover that is a size that most silk inserts won't support and want to get rid of the headache of figuring out all the maths, then you can certainly go this way for ease of use. If money was no object for me I would def want to get the Home Treasures Zebra Herringbone linen duvet cover for myself. I really like herringbone patterns and they're sort of rare to find for linen duvet covers, so this one is pretty unique in that sense and the brand (Home Treasures) is definitely a luxury brand and their duvets look like pretty awesome quality (the GSM definitely looks like it could be linen canvas or close to it). Poshmark has two of them that I have been eying jealously but the price always stops me ($800+), so... :( If you have a specialty linen store in your area, though, I would highly recommend you seeing if they have any linen canvas duvet covers there for you to get an idea of if it's something you'd like (some can't stand linen canvas' weight/roughness); though as a linen canvas owner myself I cannot imagine getting anything else but linen canvas from now on. I'm also eyeing LinaPlusHome's Etsy shop since she's the only seller I know of that has an insane GSM weight for her sheets/etc -- her highest GSM duvet cover is 300 but she makes sheet sets up to 400+ GSM which is insane... I absolutely want a 400 gsm duvet cover now, lol. Thought I'd point her out since she's unique in that aspect and there are many that have wanted the roughest, heaviest weight linen bedding they can get and she was the one I found who had the highest GSM bedding for linen canvas :D Hope this helps and is coherent. It's late and I'm starting to ramble T___T Let me know if you need more clarification or have any more questions. I'm happy to help! :) More on reddit.com

Duvet cover for silk insert?
sateen=smooth. also a tad bit warmer than percale. though thread count has an effect on this as well. id expect a 420TC sateen to run cooler than a 1000TC percale for example. percale=crisp. a bit cooler generally. sateen with silk insert is fine. i do it sometimes, though rn im using a wool insert rather than silk. Im considering a silk duvet and cotton duvet cover as the setup to my new bed (Edit: A duvet with silk fill, just to be clear). So far looking on Amazon I am seeing a couple that look to be a really good deal. They are expensive enough to where I dont immediately think they have to be fake, but neither are brands there seems to be much information on.
Since Silk All Season Comforter for $89
YOUR MOON Lightweight Mulberry Silk Comforter for $86.
Best explanation is maybe they just dont have very much filling? The YOUR MOON doesnt say anywhere how much filling there is, while the Since Silk says there is 1.97lbs. I actually found another Silk duvet from YOUR MOON while typing this out that says it has 3.5lbs of filling for $120, so their other one not even saying how much is in there doesnt inspire confidence.
So what Im wondering is should I just be avoiding these lesser known brands and paying for more reputable ones? I usually try to buy things from as cheap a source as possible. Also is there any way to know what weight I should be aiming for? I dont sleep hot or cold and am just looking for something that I can use all year around. Also dont use a top cover or anything like that, just a comforter is it.
