Not a big drinker but wife is out of town and looking to relax after a stressful few weeks. I have Chopin vodka and would like something simple and refreshing. I’ve never even had a martini before so I don’t know what those taste like.
I am running to the store later so ingredients aren’t an issue if I know what to get. I would prefer vodka forward and not overly fruit or sweet.

Hi everyone,
I live in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where the alcohol options are limited. The most available spirit is vodka, which is very available. After that, the next most popular spirit is a kind of local brandy which is quite bitter and is usually taken as a shot and chased by an orange slice - because no one can stand the taste.
I'd like to be able to offer guests a range of cocktails: something sweet, something strong, something maybe a bit more quirky. What kinds of drinks can I make with just vodka and simple, cheap ingredients? We have all the usual fizzy drinks, fruit juice, and some herbs. Grateful for any ideas!

You can do a nice Moscow Mule which requires some sort of ginger beer and lime juice. Very refreshing and quite simple. You could make your own ginger syrup and top it off with soda if that is a option for you. Making your own syrup makes it a bit more spicy and interesting. As for a strong option you could do a vodka martini with some nice orange bitters of those are available to you. Could also skip the bitters if those are not widely available. Keep in mind that vodka does not have a very distinctive taste so it will blend well with most flavors. You can definitely play with it! Maybe add a twist to some cocktails that involve vodka like a cosmopolitan, screwdriver, kamikaze ect. Add some local fruit to your drinks, or maybe a local liqueur if you have those.

try muddling different fruits and herbs (mint, cucumber, citrus, berries, etc) play around with it and see what you like. add some simple syrup and top with soda. vodka is so versatile. you could even do dirty martinis or bloody mary’s. if you have tomato juice and olives available.
