We purchased the C5 sleep number bed. Don’t like that the base is non returnable (as mentioned on many forums). What are some alternatives that could be used so that we don’t spend $600 on a base that cannot be returned if we don’t like the bed?
My current setup is a king platform style wooden bed frame. It has slats on it with a support bar through the middle. If we were to purchase the base we’d put it on the slats or remove them and have the base inside the actual frame.
Any advice from people who have not used the SN base would be appreciated.

You need the SN base. There are super-neodynium magnets in it that hold the mattress down. (I had an older model that used bolts) WIthout them it will float up when you raise the bed. The SN base is overpriced and non-returnable, but you don't have a choice Oh, and the SN base works with other mattresses.

Sleep numbers are glorified air mattresses. They're too lightweight to conform to a raised adjustable base. When I got mine ages ago they used bolts to hold the mattress to the base. Now they use heavy duty magnets to do it. You need their overpriced base, unfortunately. More on reddit.com
