My very limited experience is that I like PrusaSlicer https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/releases better, mostly because of it's interface. But that for the Ender 3 and the Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro that I usually use Cura is much easier to get perfect prints with. Cura is tuned to those printers perfectly. Just like all the Excellent Prusa printers are tuned to print absolutely flawlessly with the default PrusaSlicer Settings. Both slicers can do amazing on any printer, but out of the box, without messing with the hundreds of settings and starting, ending, and per layer Gcode, etc... your better off getting the latest version of whatever flavor the manufacturer recommends and making sure the firmware on your printer is up to date. At this point, there are basically three major families: Simplify3D, the Cura family, and the Slic3r family. Simplify3D most easily stands out as the only one of the bunch thst costs money. It has some interesting features, but its latest versions have gotten a poor reputation for performance and stability problems. I suggest avoiding for now. The Cura family includes Cura itself, but also the Creality Slicer and some other printer-specific versions. In the Cura family, it's usually better to ditch the printer-specific software and go with Cura itself. Cura is considered by some to be the old industry standby: it will work, but not necessarily in the easiest or fastest way. The Slic3r family runs in the opposite direction: Slic3r itself hasn't been updated in a long time, but its descendants see a lot of development. The main four at this point are PrusaSlicer, SuperSlicer (Prusa's community edition), Bambu Slicer, and OrcaSlicer (Bambu's community edition). Of these, Prusa and Orca currently see the most active development. Generally, what I recommend is this: if your printer has a Cura-derived slicer, ditch it and go with Cura. If your printer has a Slic3r-derived slicer, keep it. Otherwise, the choice at this point is mostly between Cura, Prusa, and Orca. At the moment Orca is getting the heaviest press, but new features keep popping up in Cura and Prusa that may be worth your while. Use whatever comes most naturally to you.

cura is fine but highly recommend moving to Prusa Slicer down the road. especially if you are going to make a move to Klipper firmware or a Klipper firmware based printer down the road. orca slicer would also be another choice and is much simpler to use imho. plus if you move to a Bambu printer you'll already be familiar with their slicer by using orca.

5 Best Slicer Software for 3D Printers - Medical 3D Printing - embodi3D.com
In 3D printing, the actual 3D printer that seemingly does all the work is really only half of the equation. The whole process starts with the digital 3D model which is then divided into very thin “slices” that are used as the basis for the movement of the print head. More on embodi3d.com
