Hi, I live a hot climate and can't figure out what duvet insert to buy. I would cap it at an absolute max of $300 and I'm looking at the cooling down alternatives offered by the brands listed in the header. Anybody tried any of them before? I already have sheets I love and I'm not a fan of down or bamboo.

I just got the sheets and giggles comforter a few days ago and it is WAY too hot for me. It's fluffy which I love, but in a really dense heavy way. I do live in Utah, it's summer and I sleep hot, next to my furnace of a boyfriend, but even if that weren't the case I wouldn't rate this thing as an all season comforter. It IS soft and attractive, I'm tempted to keep it around for winter, we'll see if it holds up in the wash though. So far it's made it through one cycle ok... Next up I had my eye on an Ikea duvet insert, but they're almost 10 inches smaller than the duvet cover that matches my sheets I was planning on ordering, so be careful if you go that route. (Part of the appeal of the sheets and giggles comforter was it has a finished enough look to not be in a cover). Ikea inserts do have great ratings, are rated to different heat levels, and look pretty fluffy, plus the price can't be beat. My next step was gonna be a Cariloha comforter, as a desperate measure. The $300 price tag is off-putting, but it does appear to meet my fluffy and light requirements. But I know you said no bamboo. I'm curious as to why?

I am hot sleeper. Looking for lightweight 100% cotton duvet / comforter. Found this

https://www.slumbercloud.com/products/lightweight-comforter

Seems to check a lot of boxes. "NASA" cooling technology seems questionable.

Mixed reviews of the company on Trustpilot

https://www.trustpilot.com/review/slumbercloud.com

60 day trial is nice. Otherwise I'll go Brooklinen (lightweight)

Thoughts?

Thanks

A bit late here but I'm actually a big fan of the slumber cloud light comforter. I went though about five different comforters before settling on this one. I personally don't love down comforters, even the very high end ones. Just too hot and I don't like the extra volume. This blanket is thin, lightweight and has a soft breathable feel. It has been perfect for me in the summer and with an additional thinner blanket on top in the winter. I recently got the performance duvet cover for it and I'm surprised that I actually like it though it absolutely runs warmer by about 25%. The benefit is it's softer, looks nicer, and allows you to keep it clean without cleaning the whole comforter. All that being said, I've looked into the company and it's made up of 4-6 people with marketing backgrounds. I'm not saying that a few marketers can't figure out how to make a great product but it definitely makes me question the "NASA" technology claims. Anytime a company uses "NASA" in their marketing I'm skeptical tbh... So, worst case scenario, their products are rebranded from some manufacturer they partner with and the "technology" in the blankets is exaggerated. Still love the product regardless of that so I'll keep using their stuff. Not affiliated with them in anyway but I'm quite picky with this stuff so figured I'd share my opinion.

I've had it for a few years. It's definitely cooler than other duvets I've tried, but it's not magic. I'm glad I got it before the prices skyrocketed. I paid ~150 for a king. No way I'd pay over 200.

March 8, 2024 - Textured comforter definitely has more of that outlast cool feel, that isn't cold but noticeably cool the whole night. The textured part is completely fine with my autistic (diagnosed) fabric sensitivity. I can really only stand jersey sheets kind of thing. The design weaves were completely adequate for me but for a replacement that costs more and is actually better. I'm not upset in the least with slumbercloud especially with the prompt warranty replacement with my two emails.

r/Bedding on Reddit: My experience with Parachute Home, Brooklinen, Slumber Cloud, Ralph Lauren Home, Italic, Coyuchi, Buffy and Sferra
August 13, 2023 -

Hey everyone, I've always referenced this sub when trying out new bedding. I've been a reader behind the scenes, but never a poster. So, I thought it was time to contribute by sharing my thoughts on the various bedding I've tried over the years. I won't delve too deep into any one item, but if you have questions, feel free to ask!

A bit about my sleeping style: I share a bed with my significant other. We keep the house at around 70 degrees at night and live in a warm climate. I'm a side sleeper and have a preference for very fluffy comforters. However, I haven't been able to use them as much since my significant other tends to sleep very hot, while I'm just an average temperature sleeper. Even at 70 degrees, it's a rare night when I get too hot.

I've categorized my experiences by brand and mentioned those items still in rotation. I also included a x/10 rating for each item with 5 being truly average (so not bad by any means) and a WBA - would buy again or a WNBA - would not buy again. Hopefully some of you find this helpful.

Parachute Home

  • Sateen queen sheet set (7/10) WBA - This was my favorite sheet set for a few years, and it got a ton of use. The Sateen wasn’t too hot for me (but it was for my SO), and I liked how soft the sheets were. Once we upgraded to a king this set was retired, thought we still have it for the guest room.

  • Percale duvet cover (6.5/10) WBA - Before moving in with my SO, this was on my bed 24/7. Nothing about it blew me away, but it was a really solid duvet cover and paired well with the lightweight down duvet insert I used with it.

  • Lightweight down duvet insert (6.5/10) WBA - Like the duvet cover this was on my bed 24/7 for years. I really liked how light and fluffy this insert was and I honestly miss being able to sleep with it to this day, it was just too hot for my SO. I will say that during hot summer nights I would occasionally get too warm and there was a fair amount of feather escapeage when I fluffed up to duvet.

  • Light weight down alternative duvet insert (5/10) WNBA - I bought this at the same time as the down duvet insert to compare to the two and this one didn’t match the feel, light and fluffy, of the down version so I returned it.

  • Linen sheet set (3/10) WNBA - I probably didn’t give this set the chance in deserved but I found it to be entirely too scratchy. I gave it wash, threw it on the bed slept on it for one night and returned the next day. I really wanted to like these sheets and I hear linen can be some of the best long term bedding, sadly this set just wasn’t for me.

  • Down side sleeper pillow (5/10) WNBA - It’s worth knowing that I am on a constant journey to find THE pillow for me and alas, this was not it. It was my nightly pillow for a while but eventually was rotated out. I still use it from time to time and I don’t think it’s a bad pillow at all.

  • Everyday linen quilt (5/10) WBA - Last year we upgraded to a king bed and that meant time for a new comforter, so I decided to buy a bunch and try them all out. This and the following two quilts were three of the four we tried. Overall I found this quilt to be lacking in warmth and substance, it was just too flat and chilly for my liking. Though my SO liked it from the heat perspective. Ultimately it was returned.

  • Cloud cotton quilt (7/10) WBA - this quilt was great, a good blend of warmth, softness, and fluffiness. My SO thought it would be too warm in the summer so it ultimately was returned. We might try the split comforter method and if we do this is a contestant for my side.

  • Linen box quilt (4/10) WNBA - My thoughts are pretty much the same thoughts as the everyday linen quilt except it was ugly on top of it. Ultimately it was returned.

Brooklinen

  • Classic core percale sheet set (4/10) WNBA - Even though I used them for years, they were in the rotation with the sateen parachute set above, I never really like them. Why did I keep them for so long? Your guess is as good as mine. I will say that I liked how cool they were in the summer and after washing a lot they did get softer.

  • Lightweight down duvet insert (2/10) WNBA - I used this for maybe a year before upgrading to the parachute duvet insert. I really didn’t know how bad it was until I had that for comparison. This was truly a poor item; it would crinkle whenever I moved, was too small for my duvet cover (Parachute, mentioned above), had barely any loft so it was flat as a pancake, and didn’t provide much warmth (though not a bad thing in the summer). As soon as the parachute duvet arrived, this went to Goodwill.

Slumber Cloud

  • Performance comforter (5/10) WNBA - This was the winner in the great 2022 comforter-off when we upgraded to the king size bed. It was the best compromise between what I wanted and what my SO wanted. It does sleep as cool as advertised, during the winter I’ll get cold and surprisingly my SO will too! I also like that it isn’t completely flat there is some fluff to it. Overall, I find it too small for our bed, I think another 8-10inched in the width would make it much for functional for two people who like to cocoon. Since we are talking about going the split route this may soon be retired.

Ralph Lauren Home

  • RL 464 percale sheet set (8/10) WBA - All around, a great set of sheets. In my opinion, they are the best blend of price and performance. They are soft, cool and comfortable. At around the $300 price point when I bought them for a King set I’d recommend to anyone who likes percale sheets.

  • Organic cotton sateen sheet set (7/10) WBA - I expected these to be a lot softer and silkier than the percales, but they weren’t. Not to say they aren’t soft - they are - but not much more than the percales. These get less use since they are part of our “winter sheet collection”. So once they break in more, they might surpass the percales.

Italic

  • Crisp percale sheet set (3/10) WNBA - This is the same sheet set recommended by the Strategist as being one that matches the Frette hotel collection but at a fraction of the price. I bought in and tried them but wasn’t impressed at all. They are almost too small (12in mattress), only have elastic on the corners, and are firm instead of soft. I can’t image the Frette sheets are like this at all, and if they are I’m disappointed in Frette without even trying them. All that said they are still in the current rotation as part of the “summer sheet collection”.

Buffy

  • Breeze comforter (5/10) WNBA - I don’t have a whole lot to say other than it felt like a normal comforter. I don’t sleep hot so I can’t speak to how well it cools. This was my SO’s comforter and when we moved in together and it became what we both used.

  • Breeze duvet cover (3/10) WNBA - This is was stupid heavy compared to other duvet covers I’ve used, mainly the parachute cover mentioned above. Worse of all when paired with the Breeze comforter it I actually got hot, and I don’t sleep hot! So it did exactly the opposite of what it was intended to do. My So didn’t last long with this combo and we eventually use the parachute duvet with the breeze comforter.

Coyuchi

  • Organic relaxed sateen sheet set (5/10) WBA - I expected more out of these sheets based on reviews but they just strike me as average overall. Nothing particularly bad or good stands out about them. Currently in rotation as part of the “winter sheet collection”.

Sferra

  • Giza 45 Percale Collection (9/10) WBA - Everything you’ve read is true; these are the softest sheets I have ever slept in. They honestly feel like silk anytime I get in. They are also extremely cool and breathable. That said, they are sheer - like see-through sheer - so if that bothers you, know that going in. The reason I don’t give a 10/10 is that the overall buying experience was severely lacking at this price point. Based on the email communication, shipping, and packaging, you would have thought I ordered $100 sheets from Macy’s. The sheets deliver, no questions asked, but my $300 RLH sheets came in packaging 10x nicer. That said, I can’t wait to get the Giza 45 Sateen Collection and give those a try.

Thank you so much for this essay of your experiences in bedding! It will be super helpful for many users to come, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a stellar person! :D I wasn't at all surprised by your grades, honestly (esp with regards to the Organic options since those are always never really that soft) and I knew Ralph Lauren would perform better than most everything else since their products for the most part are pretty decent all-around (always has been, so thankfully that hasn't changed much in all the years they've been around). I would really love to see if you and your SO would like a silk insert (they are game changers for people that sleep hot and also for couples that sleep differently since they do perfect at temp regulation). When I saw you tried the Sferra Giza 45 percale I was like, "Oh, shit... that's the winner" and I was right, lol :D The Giza 45s are insane for how amazing they are, and I agree the percale is almost sheer so that can be a turn-off for many. The Giza 45 sateen and the luxe sateen are supposed to be even more stunning than the percale so I think you'll be really impressed by them :D For a thicker percale that's Giza cotton the Matouk Gatsby is supposed to be pretty soft and heavier than most luxury percales but they won't ever come close to Sferra's Giza 45, for sure, in case you were interested. It really sucks that Macy's did you dirty on the packaging, though :\ You're right: for sheets that expensive they def should improve their packaging practices, at the very least. Thanks again, and I hope to see you more on the sub in the future---your post was truly a delight to read for its formatting and the expansive products you've tried. 10/10 WRA (would read again)! :9

r/Bedding on Reddit: Has anyone tried Slumber Cloud Align Duvet System?
November 1, 2025 -

Our two kittens (now grown cats) shredded our Brooklinen duvet cover, which we have been living with for (cough) four years now. Time for a refresh!

I asked ChatGPT for advice on cat-proof duvet covers, and one suggestion was the Slumber Cloud Align system.

I had originally thought of going with something heavily textured, like a waffle weave or denim, because even though our furry boys are not as rambunctious as they used to be, one caught claw can lead to disaster when leaping after a wand toy. 🙈 Heavy texture seemed like a good armour against claws.

But the disadvantage of texture is that it captures fur like nobody’s business.

So when Chat popped up the Slumber Cloud Align, I was intrigued.

A top cover that zips on and off?

You mean we wouldn’t have to take the duvet out to wash the cover? Like, ever?

THAT really perked up my ears!

But I’m curious if anyone has actually used the thing.

Of course, it wouldn’t protect against claws, but the easy-to-clean thing is really appealing!

r/Bedding on Reddit: I'm looking for the best cooling comforter or blanket, but damn I've been running circles around Reddit and Google all morning...
February 2, 2025 -

I'm looking for something more cooling, as I get so warm at night. My room is the warmest in the house and I've tested it several degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the living room. I have the vent blowing but it doesn't work well.

Well I have a cotton comforter but it's a bit thick and I'm thinking to swap it out. Every brand I look into seems to have pros and then there is one or several comments with major cons. Here is what I've looked into so far.

Peru Pima: This one flew under the radar and I wasn't able to find much online but the people who had them did love them. I found a few comments saying they lost their softness after a wash and began to pill.

Rest Evercool: This one has tons of controversy, not being cooling, customer service, pilling, etc. At a glance it looks perfect but I'm not inclined to buy based on price and complaints.

Aeptom Eucalyptus Lyocell Comforter: An option I found after some digging but doesn't have much to back it up.

Sijo Clima TempTune Comforter: This comforter seems to fit the bill but there are complaints of returning and customer service being a nightmare.

And then there's a lot of opinions and reviews saying bamboo, but bamboo is really rayon and bad for you, cotton is the way to go, but then that rabbit hole goes deep too :P

Having to weed out who actually enjoys their comforter, and who is a paid ad, damn! What a world we live in. I feel bad for those who are less internet-savvy.

Can anyone recommend a cooling comforter or blanket that is high quality and not super thick? (if it's thick but cooling that's fine [I'm looking for something to keep me cool]).

TLDR: I can't find a good cooling comforter. Can anyone recommend or do you have any reviews based on the brands I mentioned?

r/Mattress on Reddit: A hot sleeper's thoughts on the Slumber Cloud Nacreous cooling mattress pad
January 21, 2020 -

Hi there

I picked one of these bad boys up around August of last year, and thought I'd share some thoughts since I haven't seen much discussion of it here.

I'm a warm sleeper, and also very heat sensitive. Finding the right mattress has been a struggle for the past year (thought I'd try something new with a recent move / new job, and that may not have been the most wise move in retrospect). The first mattress in this whole adventure was a memory foam which had "sleeps cool!" as a top-billed feature (spoiler: NOPE). After around a month of waking up sweaty and feeling like I was in a sauna - despite new breathable sheets & blankets - decided to try the Slumber Cloud mattress pad to see if it would make a difference without needing a whole new mattress.

The best thing about it is that as soon as you put it on the bed, it is cool to the touch. It feels awesome when you lay on it and it actually makes the whole mattress top feel cold. That part isn't just marketing, it is accurate!

Unfortunately, as you lay on it for (let's say) an hour or so, the mattress underneath will start to get pretty warm, which in turn warms up the mattress pad... But, for some reason, it almost seems to amplify that heat. After a few hours, I found that staying on one spot on the pad felt warmer than if I was just using a normal mattress protector since the heat felt "amplified" somehow... So, in the end, the pad made for a worse night than those which came before.

Okay, to give the benefit of the doubt, maybe it was indeed the mattress.

As mentioned, I've been on a mattress adventure. I returned the memory foam, and moved into a full latex mattress (talalay, local made). Tl;dr for those who also sleep hot: it also absorbed heat (albeit at a slower rate than the memory foam, the latex mattress probably took 2+ hours to get super warm). Didn't actually try the mattress pad with this one; but did eventually return that mattress as well - just have this in here for context.

Which brings me to the current one, a Hybrid which the internet is abuzz with saying that it sleeps cool and is great for athletes and uses a Celliant top (that should probably be enough to help you figure out which one without needing to be explicit!)

I had my first couple nights with it, and have found it to be too warm also... Big bummer, and will probably have to continue my adventure; but, with that in mind, I decided to pull out the Slumber Cloud (since I hadn't returned the pad and wanted to try it out again)

That initial observation remains accurate - it amplified the heat. I ended up having to pull it off in the middle of the night because it turned a warm bed into a hot bed.

It's too late for me to return the pad, and I doubt I'll be able to resell it, so thought that I'd leave you all a message with my experiences so someone can hopefully learn a lesson from my scenario!! I'm happy to answer any questions, please feel welcome to leave them and I'll try to get back to you ASAP!

(PS: If anyone has suggestions on the most breathable, most consistently cool mattress available in Canada [we don't have purple 3s] which aren't heinously expensive, plzzz leave a comment or PM!!)

Ok , I am not sure if this is the right place, but here are my questions. Background, I definitely consider myself a "dude" however I am 52. That said I do enjoy nice things. However I don't feel like I know enough to make a good decision. So any advice will be appreciated. What I know: satin and silk are definitely not for me. 320 thread count I have decided is the bare minimum, 600 TC is my max as they tend to be to hot for me. Also I don't know anything about cool feel bedded but sounds like might be for me as I tend to get hot. Also I would like A comforter/duvet that fits the bed. All that I have had just seem to cover the top making it look unfinished. This is for a queen size bed if that makes any difference. Last thing price is something I would consider however I am very lucky to be in a good place and this is not a major concern. Up until the last few years I had a very wonderful person in my life who made sure I was always taken care of so I didn't really have to learn. Thanks in advance for any input.

I have night sweats really bad so I decided to invest in two cooling comforters. The first one didn't work that well. It was $80 and made by cozy Bliss In the description it says: Q-Max > 0.4 cooling fabric, which can brilliantly absorb body heat and humidity, accelerate moisture evaporation and reduce skin temperature by 2 to 5 ℃ Material is Nylon OEKO-TEX certified fabric, filled with 100% poly down alternative It had a 4.5 rating and most of the reviews were good hot sleepers

I returned it and I got a different blanket that is overtime as $229. I got it for half off so $115. HLLBLL® Cooling Comforter, Ultra Cold Fiber Technology It has five stars out of 118 rating. When I got it it was only 4.8 rating. Material Nylon, spandex, ultra cold fiber It does not have a q rating index which made me a little hesitant It says lightweight and moisture wicking and it posts five times the moisture absorption and lightweight

I just sweated in that one

For reference my room is at 16° c (60.8° F) on turbo fan and then I have a ceiling fan that's on and then I have my window open. I live in the Southwest, where it does drop 20° at night and reaches 65° But it is hot and dry in the day. My mom says it's cold in my room but it's not cold it's cool if anything. But I do sweat with the environment cool.

I don't want to spend any more money on expensive blankets if they don't work Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, I'm just writing brief review of the SlumberCloud performance mattress pad that suppose to be a cooling pad. Overall, I didn't find it to be to effective as a hot sleeper and not worth that 150$+ or so that it costs. I personally couldn't notice any real difference to a generic mattress topper and it still got plenty hot very quickly during warmer nights (I live in a place without AC). I would return it, but it has been too long since I purchased it.

Additionally, I don't like the fact that their website uses the deceptive marketing practice of showing reviews on their site sorted by rating. This means you have to go through pages of 5 star reviews before you can see any lower ratings. For some of their products with a large number of reviews, this makes it impossible to see 1/2/3 or even 4 star reviews.

I just want to make people aware of this fact before trying it. I would recommend trying some other bread first: E.g.: IKEA has a mattress pad that is suppose to also be cooling.
