10 x 10 Kitchen Inspiration Anyone?
September 12, 2014 - I'm just starting a complete kitchen remodel in a 100 year old Craftsman house. The 10 x 10 space is cozy, to say the least. It seems that so many people here have large kitchens, this is a shout out to any kind soul who has remodeled an approximately 10 x 10 box!
Critique our kitchen design please (10' x 11')
I like where the fridge is I really wish the oven had landing space on both sides and wasn't right next to an active doorway, I think that's asking for pots and pans to get knocked off and people to get burned. I don't think the island is your best use of this smaller space. I would try this: Instead of the island, have a counter on the right-hand wall under the window. Add a peninsula for your seating area, so your back is to the living room. Put the sink on this new counter, under the window. Dishwasher goes either next to the sink or where the oven is now (if you can get the plumbing to work). Then, put the oven about where the sink currently is but more towards the corner. Next to the fridge you could add a full height pull out pantry, even if it's narrower like 18". You could have a built in microwave in the pantry if it's wide enough, or go over-the-range if you like that. (I prefer not to deal with changing altitudes with bowls of boiling hot soup, so I want my MWave at counter height, but this is totally personal preference.) More on reddit.com

The layout is fine. Is there a wall where the red 10’ line is? If not, extend the countertop as far as possible to the left of the sink. Even if you need to make the counter lower under a window. More on reddit.com

I would recommend enlisting a kitchen designer. This is a tight space, and there are a lot of paths of traffic in and around the kitchen. A designer will help make sure you’re not creating bottlenecks or punch points in your layout, especially if you want to add new workspaces and move key elements like the sink around. Plus they’ll be able to manage the documentation and mock-ups for your contractor. One thing I have a Q about: If you move the sink beneath the window, where will you put your dishwasher? You can fill the back wall with new cabinetry (refrigerator, stove and as much countertop and upper cabinets that will fit) and then place an appriximately 4'-0" long x 4'-0" deep island in front of that which contains the sink. But that's not the most efficient kitchen layout, in my opinion.

Having to plan a bit of a last-minute kitchen remodel due to some mold found in my under my sink. My old kitchen had so much wasted space (no corner cabinets, small upper cabinets, no pantry) so I’m excited to get some more functional space, but given its size and shape I also don’t want it to look cluttered, so I’m contemplating putting in some open shelves vs cabinets everywhere. I’m planning on doing everything through IKEA. 1st pic is my kitchen pre-remediation. The rest are my inspiration pics and IKEA online designer. Any thoughts or recs on how to best utilize the space?

I'm a kitchen designer, and also really loved doing my own space very similar to these photos and size wise to yours. Mon was about 10x10. Add a bar at the left side of the kitchen, you should have enough space to have two barstools and still keep 36" of wall through space. Mine was 35 in deep (24 for the base cabinet and then another 11 for the overhang of the bar). I turned the left side base cabinet (up against the L wall) backwards making it a usable corner for longer storage. Turning it into a G shape. It'll add a ton of counter space and another base cabinet. I did almost this same thing as the photo in my own kitchen that was your layout originally and I love it so much. Recommend moving to lower drawers too it's great. I had a walk around but I would highly recommend you utilize the space (that on the photo is open, but on yours is closed - to the right of my oven) for floor to ceiling Pantry's. This kitchen is also fully IKEA top to bottom. All base cabs are drawers except the reversed of the bar.
