r/laptops on Reddit: Intel vs snap dragon
September 1, 2025 - Snapdragon processors aren't as compatible to all the softwares amd and Intel chips are compatible with. That said, most major softwares are compatible with all 3. Snapdragon processors will also give you a better battery life.

What's the thought here about a Snapdragon machine vs. an Intel+NVDIA machine?
The primary draw for the current Snapdragon X machines is the battery life compared to current Intel Core chips while still offering similar general performance. If you want great battery life on a Windows machine, then the Snapdragon chips deliver it. There may be some incompatibilities with old printers/hardware, specialized software, and games. Gaming performance is poor, especially compared to something with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 series GPU. There's also some future "CoPilot+" AI features in Windows that will require new chips like the Snapdragon X or the new AMD Ryzen AI series. Not too sure how great those AI features will be. Intel is expected to announce their 15th-gen chips this September with "breakthrough x86 power efficiency" among other things like the AI features. So if you have time, you could wait until laptops with those chips come out. More on reddit.com

Intel vs Snapdragon?
The Snapdragon's hardware is superior. Yet the compatibility of x86 Windows apps on ARM is still a tiny bit hit or miss, you run the risk of not being able to run your software on the Snapdragon. For compatibility get an Intel or AMD. For now. More on reddit.com

Surface Snapdragon or Ultra Intel?
I own the Surface Pro 10 (32 GB RAM, Core Ultra 7 165H) and the Surface Pro 11 (OLED version, 16 GB combined memory, 12 Core version). In short: the Snapdragon version is light years ahead. Battery life, power draw, perceived speed and the fan loudness are in favour of the Snapdragon version. In benchmarks the snapdragon is roughly 1/3 faster in short benchmark like geekbench and more than 1/3 in longer benchmarks (cinebench 2024, 820 up to 850 points Multi Core for the 11; 450 up to 490 for the SP 10). If you are really sure you need an AMD64/x86 compatible device, get the Core Ultra 7 165U version. That could be niche drivers or devices or if you need to virtualize PCs on your device. For most people the snapdragon device would be the better choice, even if you occasionally stumble over emulated apps not running at full performance. Edit: typo. More on reddit.com

Intel Core Ultra, Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus or AMD Ryzen AI: tested in the same Lenovo ThinkBook 16 - ITdaily
January 30, 2025 - This is one of the lighter CPUs in the Snapdragon X range, equipped with eight Kryo arithmetic cores (3.2 GHz – 3.4 GHz), good for 16 threads. This chip has a TDP of 30 watts. The three chips are fairly close to each other. AMD’s CPU and Qualcomm’s are still the most similar in terms of specifications. However, Intel’s processor is baked on an Intel 4-band, which the manufacturer considers similar to the TSMC 4 nm that Qualcomm used.

r/DellXPS on Reddit: What's the thought here about a Snapdragon machine vs. an Intel+NVDIA machine?
July 31, 2024 -

It's about time to replace my 7+ year old XPS 15. I am looking at another XPS and when at Best Buy a sales guy was really excited about the new Snapdragon machines. I don't know much about them, or why they are so desirable. The guy was telling me the Intel chip in now in new machines is over a year old technology and the Snapdragon is brand new technology and will last longer.

Are there real advantages to a Snapdragon machine? I don't do anything really heavy with photo editing or gaming or programming. I have been looking at an i7 or i9 with an NVDA 4060 (or 4050/4070 can't remember exactly), partly because I own a fair amount of NVDA stock. The old "buy from companies you're invested in".

I guess this question is more about Snapdragon than XPS's, but I've had such a good experience with my current machine I definitely want an XPS again. Probably a 14, but maybe a 13, inch.

And I will likely buy from Dell.com and not Best Buy, but we'll see when the time comes to actually make the purchase.

Go watch the reviews from Just Josh and Andrew Marc David on YouTube. Snapdragon has advantages and disadvantages - Depends what you want to be doing. Beware Intel is currently dealing with catastrophic CPU failure problems - Its suspected they're lying about mobile not being affected (as they lied about desktop processors for months). Once they fail the only fix is full replacement. AMD's new Ryzen 300 processors rival Snapdragon (once you start looking at higher tier Snapdragon processors which can actually perform decently)... I'd highly recommend waiting another weeks if you can, let more Ryzen 300 models get onto the market, and then choose one of those. You'll get better performance than Intel/Snapdragon, less heat than Intel, better battery life than Intel/comparable to Snapdragon, but not have any of the Wintendo on ARM/app/game compatibility problems. Beware XPS has a long history of not being able to sufficiently cool higher tier processors - They'll thermal throttle harmd after about a minute. You'll never get the performance you're paying for. Build quality has also been rather suspect the last few years, with poor fit/finish and premature failure being issues. Lastly 2024 models repeat Apple's touchbar mistake (no real escape/function keys), but without an OS Dell controls to do anything interesting.

Snapdragon X Elite vs Intel Core Ultra 7 155H: We ran the benchmarks
December 19, 2024 - What's interesting is that when I first wrote about Snapdragon X Elite benchmarks, I said that Qualcomm was well-positioned by being far enough ahead of Intel 13th Gen that Meteor Lake probably wouldn't catch up, but Intel Core Ultra actually got a lower score on single-threaded performance. Intel admits this, too, as it sacrificed that single-core performance for better multi-core.
