With an off grid system in the northeast you need to be sized for the worst case and that is back to back winter storms where the sun doesn't come out for a week. Then even when the sun shines, you only get perhaps three hours of good sun. The rest of the time, like a sunny day in May, it is way oversized. Just how over sized in panels and batteries will determine just how much you need to run the generator when the weather is bad. The cheapest solution is to cut your usage. Heat pumps for home heating, Cut down your usage. Conservation is cheaper than panels. Do you really need 900 watts of rack mount servers for your homelab? I'll venture that you do not. Wants and needs are different. Install heat pumps based heating, water heating and dryer. If you take these steps, you might only need 20 to 25 panels and that is more likely to fit on your roof. Is there a good calculator for estimating size of battery and inverter for an off-peak, non-solar system to charge battery during off-peak times and run house during peak times? I’d add solar later.
You need to identify your power consumption during the peak rate time you want to avoid. This will define the storage capacity of your battery system Also identify the circuits that will be powered by battery. This will determine size of your inverter. (For example: air conditioning, water heater, electric range. But not dishwasher, cloths dryer or cloths washer, etc because will not use during peak times More on reddit.com

Does anyone here have a source for a non-industry based calculator that will help me with this? Nothing that is decent out there which is not industry based. Sure there are free calculators, but they won't do much but give you the basics. Some free tools that may assist you in gathering the information you seek: https://pvoutput.org/ (can be used to gather data from solar producers in FL) https://sunroof.withgoogle.com/ (can be used to gauge viability for your property) https://www.dsireusa.org/ (tool to find clean energy incentives by zip) -- For the rest, it's up to you to piece together the data and make the calculations. I would expect an approximate ROI around the seven-eight year mark in FL with applicable rebates with a system that is financed. I see you mention contracted install also, I highly recommend you gather 3-5 quotes from large and small solar companies for comparison.
