Recently ordered A Pinecil will arrive by Jan 5th. Was wondering what I should buy to help me get started. I have some cheap solder that came from a bernzomatic butane soldering iron. But I need suggestions for better solder, accessories, etc. If theres cheaper but good quality items I don't mind waiting for shipping from aliexpress or other sites. Links would be greatly appreciated.

The solder with those butane soldering irons are often not for electronics and it's a lot thicker than you would want if you are using it for electronics. I use 0.6mm solder wire but 0.8mm would be most people's first choice. Search YouTube for sdg electronics. He does some reviews of difference solder and fluxes, some of which you can get from aliexpress etc. I'm not a fan of leaded solder use (or at least learning to solder with it), but it is what most people typically use. You can also buy fluxes and solder wire from places like element14, digikey, mouser. You're typically getting great quality, brand labelled, traceable product from these guys and pay a little more for it. Once you are more into what you're working on and what size tips you have, you can make more informed choices on solder wire options. Some of the aliexpress choices only seem cheaper because they give you such little wire. Look for length and weight. Don't forget compatible flux options. Solder wire often has a flux core inside the wire, but more flux is nearly always warranted. Learn to tin your tips BEFORE you turn the heat on. You might want cellulose wipe pad, brass wool, IPA (isopropyl alcohol), acetone, dispensers, tweezers. Read the guide on the side and if you have further question post them.

As some others have mentioned, definitely want to get some good solder. I personally like the Radio Shack stuff, but if you don't have one nearby, I've heard that Kester. Multicore, and MG Chemicals all make good stuff. I would highly recommend something for removing solder as well, like solder braid or a solder sucker. Personally, I really like the Menda desoldering braid, but I've heard that Chemtronics and MG Chemicals are also good. This is honestly where you don't want to cheap out. The difference between the stuff you could get at Radio Shack and the Menda brand is staggering. Personally, I like the no-clean fluxed wick. A good solder sucker is also worth it, as both it and solder wick have their advantages and disadvantages. The Engineer SS-02 (or the Vampire cousin) are the only ones I've used that didn't (or rather did) suck. Don't get the Kotto knockoff, though, the top of the plunger likes to fall off. As for tip cleaner, if you have something heatproof you can put it in, dollar store brass scouring pads work great. Or, you can get something like the Hakko 599B, which is still pretty inexpensive. And, to repeat the others, some paste or gel flux is a must-have. Electronics has a flux core (which is what smokes when you're soldering) but sometimes you need a little bit more. It also helps if you're reflowing a previous joint, or if a joint didn't flow properly in the first place. Usually I use gel or paste, but if you're feeling adventurous, you could try liquid flux. You'll usually want to use rosin-based stuff. I can't recommend a specific brand because I'm not even halfway through my ten year old tub of Radio Shack stuff.
