The reduction of smoke in the Ranger is nice- but it fails in the 3 of the 5 aspects I think are desirable. ... We have the bonfire and as others have stated even on sale they are expensive for what they are for. That said they really do work and reduce smoke significantly. Before the Solo Stove I had a handmade Bushbuddy stove that uses a similar design for a camp cooking stove.

Hey everyone. I’ve been wanting a SoloStove for about a year now. I think it’s finally time especially with the free messa they’re offering (I’m going to gift it to my older brother for Christmas lol). Only thing is I’m torn between the bonfire and ranger. What do you guys prefer? Im ultimately about portability when going camping, tailgating Chiefs games, or if I just want to take it to a friends house. Please let me know what you all think!

The Bonfire would 100% be my pick, it comes with a travel bag. At 19.5” it’s small enough to travel with but big enough for almost any gathering of people. I had a Ranger but found the size to be annoying because you have to make standard size wood smaller.

If you don't mind using lump firewood or pellets, it's a good buy. My buddy bought one so I wouldn't have to keep toting my Yukon on camping trips and it was fricken miserable. All the firewood we bought had to be hand sawn in half to fit inside. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that wants to burn bundled firewood or firewood cut to "firewood" spec

We love our ranger for just the 2 of us, it uses so much less wood than the Yukon. I think ours was $199, but I'm a sucker for accessories also, so I added the deflector, spark screen, lid, and handle. We probably use it 2:1 or at least 3:2 as often as the Yukon. The ranger is limited in size, so sourcing just for it may be tricky. I keep a full size wood rack for the Yukon and a smaller one for the off cut pieces. We have some maple and oak trees that are constantly dropping dead branches, so I cut those down shorter. If you have the Ranger, you'll be on the lookout for right sized pieces or you'll end up cutting splits in half.

While meandering through Marshall’s on a retail therapy day of playing hooky from teaching (it’s already week 7 of our school year), I found a solo stove ranger first generation for $150. We have been talking about one for several years and this seemed like the opportunity to pick it up. We used it yesterday evening while waiting for the Boeing Re-entry and it was wonderful. Totally worth the sale price.
