What type(s) of wood should I use as fuel?
The perfect smokeless flame requires quality, dry fuel. Kiln-dried hardwoods such as oak, or maple have a low moisture content, so they’ll burn at a higher temperature and give your flames a smooth secondary burn effect.

Solo Stove Ranger + Cooking Bundle Review - Eat Sleep Wild
September 7, 2025 - It’s pretty close. In our use of the Solo Stove Ranger thus far, the only true smokiness happens when you first light the fire as the logs catch. After that, smoke is at a minimal. And there’s way less of that smokey hair and clothes after effect that you often get after a night around a campfire, which is pretty remarkable.

Solo Stove Ranger 2.0 Review – The Urban Caravan
April 19, 2024 - Whilst perusing social media, adverts started coming up for the Solo Stove smokeless fire pit. I’ve had my eye on one for a while and this Easter which tied in with my birthday I decided to treat myself and find out if the hype about being smokeless is for real. The advertising campaign is very slick and features happy people without smoke in their eyes sitting around the fire pit having a very nice time. I read a good number of reviews and all sung the praises of this amazing fire pit, I bought the Ranger 2.0 which for a limited time came with a Mesa table top fire pit.

r/SoloStove on Reddit: Ranger 2.0 or Bonfire 2.0 - small yard
August 24, 2023 -

We have a small city/rowhouse yard that's really just about 12 ft wide by 18ft long. Trying to decide between Bonfire 2.0 or Ranger and really can't quite tell if the bonfire would be too large/put out too much heat or would fit ok right in the middle of our space and be able to fit 6 or so people around.

Anyone else with small spaces have experience?

Ranger 17 Inch Round Stainless Steel Wood-Burning Fire Pit in Stainless Steel by Solo Stove
The Ranger 2.0 Fire Pit by Solo Stove is the most compact fire pit in the Solo Stove collection. The Ranger features a patented air flow design that is unmatched by any other fire pit. This technology helps logs burn completely and greatly minimizes smoke. Solo Stove puts air intake holes on the bottom of the fire pits that pull air in towards the fuel source. While this air is being pulled in, the double-wall construction allows the air to be heated up and fed through the top vents. This provides an extra boost of pre-heated oxygen, creating a secondary combustion and an attractive flame that

r/SoloStove on Reddit: Ranger 2.0 or Bonfire 2.0 for Car Camping?
August 19, 2024 -

Hi Yall, I recently came across these SoloStoves and through they would be pretty nice and easy to use for camping. I have tried to specifically find an answer when it comes to which would be best for car camping but haven't really found anything definitive.

It seems that if its for backyard use the bonfire is the way to go, but I am going to travel with mine often.

So that is my question, which one is better for car camping? This would be my primary use.

I would probably also use a combination of pellets and wood? I really want to give pellets a good shot.

Thanks!

r/SoloStove on Reddit: First night with a Ranger and I’m disappointed.
August 16, 2020 -

I cannot overstate how excited I was to get this thing and it burned like a regular fire pit. It’s so short that store bought bundles stick out the top & smoke a ton. I put two pieces from the bundle in & nearly 2 hours later one is still sticking out of the top. It roared a little when I added some small stuff to it, hoping to gut this guy to fall, but no luck. I’ve got a nice base of coals but I’m just waiting for it to die out now to go inside.

Anyone else have a really lackluster first fire, and how do you get a ranger going with firewood the length of a face cord (24” or so)?
