r/TwinCities on Reddit: Anyone talk to ICE? Im a US citizen and somali. Yes I was born here
4 weeks ago -

Hello everyone

With the recent news about our community being targeted because of the actions of a few individuals, there’s been an increase in racism and Islamophobia. Unfortunately, our community is often used as a scapegoat, and it’s been stressful for a lot of us. I want to be clear that I do not condone what those individuals did. they should face full consequences!!

I’m wondering if anyone here has had interactions with ICE and what to expect. As a U.S. citizen, how should I prepare if they come to our area? Are there tips or experiences you can share? I’ve seen videos online of people being taken to detention centers in other states, and it made me wonder what actually happens. Will officers respect my citizenship? Do I need to carry anything besides my driver’s license?

Any advice or clarification would be really helpful. a lot of videos of ice just taking people to random state into detention center and im wondering if what's what will happen. Will the officer ignore my US citizenship? What happend if I dont have my birth certificate with me? Is my driver's license enough. Idk any tip os helpful

Edit: I want to say thank you to everyone who genuinely cared about this cause. We’re living in an unprecedented time, and I truly appreciate all of your advocacy and support.

And to those of you who wrote racist comments under this post and chose to contribute to the problem, I see you, and you’re not funny. Get a job or a life.

I hope this situation can end soon so we all can go back to living our normal life.

r/Somalia on Reddit: Somali diaspora - we need to strategise to adapt new wave of racism
1 month ago -

Hi everyone, I think it’s important we start talking about the growing wave of racism against Somalis, particularly coming from right-wing figures like Trump and others aligned with that politics in US, Canada, UK and other European countries. At the same time, we’re also facing increasing anti-Somali rhetoric from within parts of the wider Black African diaspora.

These attacks are not random, and they are not going to stop on their own. If we stay silent or treat them as “normal,” we only give them more room to grow. This is why it’s important for us, as a community, to come together, collectivise, and begin thinking strategically about how we protect ourselves, tell our own stories, and build real solidarity.

This page is for honest discussion, shared experiences, and ideas on how we move forward, because what’s happening affects all of us, and how we respond will shape our future

r/islam on Reddit: As a Somali-American, i'm disappointed in my fellow Muslim Americans
November 28, 2025 -

The Trump administration and MAGA world has chosen to single out and demonize the Somali community for the past 11 months, personally in all my time in America i've never seen a single Muslim community more demonized besides Palestinians. The only difference is that Palestinians rightfully got support from the Muslim community. From journalists, to politicians, to activists.

I haven't seen ANYONE in the muslim community step up for Somalis despite some of the most disgusting, vile, and dehumanizing language hurled against us. We're being called stupid, inbred, low IQ, criminals, etc. I'm not surprised by the ugliness of the hate, but i am surprised by the lack of support. As a community Somalis have gone out of our way to show solidarity to Palestinians, Sudanese, Yemenis, Syrians, etc. It just seems like the solidarity only goes one way.

Minn. leaders push back over Trump threat to end TPS for Somalis
November 25, 2025 - The move, which would affect a little over 400 Somalis in Minnesota, is likely illegal, Attorney General Keith Ellison said Monday. And it has led to a sense that the entire community is in the crosshairs. On Sunday, a gathering at Karmel Mall drew more than 200 faith leaders and community members who decried the escalation in Islamophobic rhetoric Trump’s posts provoke and the harm to families if TPS recipients are forced to leave the lives they have built in the U.S.

r/Somalia on Reddit: Being somali is such an interesting experience
November 23, 2025 -

I can’t speak for everyone but i’m 19 I live in London so i have a really large somali community but online and even in person now recently i’ve noticed so much hostility. Like it’s genuine hatred the way they speak about us and i think we’ve let ajinabis get too comfortable in our business. It’s so weird how comfortable people are insulting and being racist to us or islamophobic and these videos get hundreds and thousands of likes of people just cussing us in the comments and i don’t think any other african community get it like this. A few things like people just saying somali cuss words or warya in public. The most annoying is when guys who aren’t somali come up to you speaking their broken somali trying to hit on me. I don’t wear a hijab but i am a practicing muslim and very visibly somali and the compliments are so backhanded like i never would gave guessed you were somali ,when i look so obviously somali , or saying they assumed i was ethiopian or im pretty for a somali which is wild.

There is hostility in all of our communities towards us i didn’t realise how much other africans really don’t like us like they’re in comments ALWAYS bringing up somalis or how we act a certain way and other people agreeing in the comments as if they know us personally. It’s an obsession at this point how xenophobic other africans are towards us. The muslim community in the UK at least is so diverse like from east europe, all over asia yet i’ve always experienced micro aggressions from them like i feel like i don’t fit in as a black person.I think the xenophobia from other africans is the most disheartening im not really surprised when people in the islamic community are racist but other africans making fun of our features and stuff i think some of it is honestly jealousy somalis are recognised worldwide and we have very unique features and they try and make us feel bad for it. And when a somali girl embraces her features the comments are just like ugh somalis are so full of themselves like can we not be confident .Has anyone else noticed this?

r/MinnesotaUncensored on Reddit: Tim Walz refuses to take accountability for Minnesota welfare fraud
December 1, 2025 -

The following tweet yesterday was the most viral tweet out of Minnesota (32+ Million views)

Tim Walz is getting exposed on the national stage thanks to brave Minnesotan public employees speaking truth:

https://x.com/Minnesota_DHS/status/1994993895428461006?s=20

Tim Walz is 100% responsible for massive fraud in Minnesota. We let Tim Walz know of fraud early on, hoping for a partnership in stopping fraud but no, we got the opposite response. Tim Walz systematically retaliated against whistleblowers using monitoring, threats, repression, and did his best to discredit fraud reports. Instead of partnership, we got the full weight of retaliation by Tim Walz, certain DFL members and an indifferent mainstream media. It’s scary, isolating and left us wondering who we can turn to.

In addition to retaliating against whistleblower, Tim Walz disempowered the Office of the Legislative Auditor, allowing agencies to disregard their audit findings and guidance. Media and politicians supporting Tim Walz or the DFL-agenda attacked whistleblowers who were trying to raise red flags on fraudulent activities.

r/Somalia on Reddit: SOMALIS WHO VOTED FOR TRUMP ?
September 25, 2024 -

Just asking , what was the reason ( other than economic which does make sense and the war in gaza ). Right now he is:

In 60 days:

1: Planning to re introduce the muslim ban ( somalia included of course)

2: I am reading news he paused asylum and related process

3: He is planning to even kill TPS

4: In second phase of deportation which will be large scale than the first phase , minnesota is part of the states in the list ( right now chicago and some other places where somalis might live undocumented or waiting for asylum ).

The craziest of all is , i know of someone who just got a passport 6 months ago , voted for trump and his real cousin ( i am not making this up ) is still in the process of asylum after coming through mexico.

This is a guy who based litterally call somalis the worst and if they had power , would have removed every one of us .

November 24, 2025 - The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Trump’s decision “will tear families apart”. The chapter’s executive director, Jaylani Hussein, said in a statement late on Friday: “This is not just a bureaucratic change; it is a political attack on the Somali and Muslim community driven by Islamophobic and hateful rhetoric.” · Trump promised while campaigning to win back the White House last year that his administration would deport millions of people. As part of a broader push to adopt hardline immigration policies, the Trump administration has moved to withdraw various protections that had allowed immigrants to remain in the United States and work legally. That included ending TPS for 600,000 Venezuelans and 500,000 Haitians who were granted protection under Joe Biden.
