Hi!
So I am stucked between these two machines and I don't know which one to get..
My mainly goal is the A7IV but that is for the future. For now I have to choose between these two but I just can't. One minute I think the C is better then the III and vica versa...
I am a beginner who's coming from M43 Lumix G9.
I will use it for photo for 70% of the time and 30% for video. In the long game I hope I will be a professional and want to make a living from it, but as for now I just want to shoot. :)
So previously i had acquired a used A7III which had some leser damage ( which i couldnt notice at the time of buying ) i just sold it off for almost the same money i bought it for this time around i am thinking about going with a new one as i dont really want to risk it any more , i have two options A7III or the A7C both are at the same price currently ( A7C being a bit cheaper , almost enough to buy a cage / grip in the same price of a A7III ) is the ergonomic difference that big ? or the added video functionality , auto focus and color science upgrades and the Flip out screen is enough to make it a better camera overall ? i mostly shoot landscape , travel , street and some times product shots as well , i am thinking about getting more into video and product shots tbh. i cant decide guys please help if someone has used both of them it would be lovely ( the stores near me dont have a display unit so cant go and check the A7C )
i think considering i shoot around 60-70% photos and rest videos it comes down the choice of a better EVF on the A7iii vs the FlipOut Screen and the video features on the A7C
Videos
Ok guys. Looking for a digital camera for mainly family photos and some videos. Here are my current used options:
Sony A7III - $1400
Includes: Shutter count of 6100 128GB SD card Tamron 20mm/2.8 lens Rokinon 85mm/1.4 and 35mm/1.4 lenses Camera Bag 3 batteries w/ charger Lens Cleaning Kit And a couple of lens filters
Sony A7c - $1500
Includes: shutter count of 1591 2 batteries / charger Sigma 28-70 lens
I hear that the AF is better on the A7C and the sigma lens may be a nice lens to pair with the A7C. I'm not too concerned about the size of the A7iii. Any thoughts on what you would go with?

Some details: The AF on the A7III is already more awesome than I need. I don't shoot a ton of video, but I would like the flip-out screen for video and also some photos. I shoot most of the time through the EVF (grew up shooting film, and it just feels "right").
I'm thinking of switching because I've come to appreciate smaller cameras, but I'm also addicted to full-frame. The A7C seems perfect, but I've never been able to try one out in person.
What DON'T I know that I probably need to know about switching?
Thanks in advance for your input!!
Hi all! Photographer here who has been getting more and more professional gigs. I'm looking to upgrade my current camera - Sony a6000 - as I usually find myself renting gear for professional shoots.
I mostly shoot weddings and editorial fashion. I'd love a camera with both a silent shutter and full-frame censor, and have loved both the A7III and the A7C when I used them on a shoot last.
Does anyone have any recommendations on which would be better to purchase for professional shoots? Primarily weddings!
Thank you!
I've never owned a camera before but I'm familiar with a7iii and ZV-E10 and I've done 2-3 gigs using a7iii. I'm going to buy either an a7iii or a7c, but I'm leaning more towards a7c cause of the flipout screen and the improved autofocus. I'm not going to make this my profession as I'm just a hobbyist but will do some gigs here and there as a side income or so. Reading old conversations in this sub reddit is making me confused about my choice between these two, so people who have used both can you clear out my confusion?. Also I'm buying a7c because it can be obtained for around $1000-1100 from where I live so..
Thanks in advance
All of these can get used for pretty much the same price. For the Sony a7 iii is 800$ or 900$ for better used version, Sony a7c is 900$, Nikon z6 ii 1000$. My lens I'm planning is tamron 28-75 f2.8. I just a do photography as a hobby, maybe more professional in the future. I want this camera last for the next 5-10 years. I have been shooting with canon 550D with a rented 24-70 f2.8. My camera starts to get issues. It been 1 year and I think this is the time I am getting my first camera.
I'm planning to upgrade from my A7s mk1.
I'm mostly going to do video but I also do street photography as a hobby. I'm mostly going to look at the use matket for these camera (Marketplace) or my local camera store.
Hello hello!
I wrote a few days ago, but some changes happend since then. This is my new "problem".
I am going to change my M4/3 to a FF Sony camera. I just don't know what to choose.
I want a hybrid camera for both Photo and Video. I live in Hungary and right now there is a nice sale (money return) for the AIII and the A7C but not for the A7IV.
So the A7III would be $2.699 with a FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS lens inc VAT and comes with $410 money back. I will buy it as a company so the VAT come back to me too so the expense would be $2120.
The A7C would cost $2099 paired with a Sony FE 28-60mm inc. VAT with $200 money back. Exc. the VAT I would pay $1660 but with a far more bad lense so I had to buy an other.
And then there is the A7IV which costs $2790 inc VAT without any money back and with 28-70mm kit lens. Excl the VAT and I have to pay a hefty $2190
I have some accessory already like the Zhiyun Crane-2 as a gimbal, Manfrotto MVT502AM + Miliboo MYT803 for Tripad and Elgato Key Light Air for inside light.
What you think, A7C or A7III or get the priecier but newer A7IV?
which one to choose
A7iii vs A7C.
Open to other as well in same budget.
Neither one is strictly better than one another, both has their strength and use case. Mainly, A7III for dual card slot and better EVF; A7C for size and ringefinder style EVF which allows you see to the surrounding when viewing through with your right eye (Open your left eye to predict what's about to enter the frame).
The final choice is very much depends on your use case, generally A7III is better spec and feature wise, while A7C is more compact, discreet (Black version only) and also works well as a fashion accessory (Silver version) if that matters.
that is entirely subjective and up to you only. there is no way a stranger can answer this for you. They are similar cameras with their own compromises, choose whichever compromises you are okay with
Just sold my old Sony a7ii, now i'm having a hard time to choose between sony a7iii or a7c. The a7c was my thought at first but only because it is lighter. So i wonder which of the 2 cameras is best for photograph landscapes, family and animals?
Hard to choose between them...
Hey everyone,
In the market for a new camera and I'm stuck between these two. On one hand I like the A7C for it's articulating screen and on the other hand I like the A7III for it's ergonomics (and I usually find used ones for cheaper than the A7C). I mostly shoot stills of cars at meets and my own car but would like to expand to making videos too. Which one would you guys recommnend? Thanks in advance!
A7C is a really cool little camera, I did enjoy the compact size of it. I would happily carry one around for shooting video but as a stills first use case the form factor and EVF of the A7iii calls it for me. Gave my A7C to my gf, she likes the small size, quality is top thou.
I bought the a7c over the a7iii because of the improved autofocus in video mode, flippy screen, as well as the gyro data for stabilization in Sony catalyst. It’s a super capable little camera and its size makes it great for gimbal work. Also, I’d say the colors are better as well but that’s subjective.
Planning to buy my first mirrorless camera. Between Nikon and Sony in this price range, found these 2 cameras to be superior. A little confused between these 2 full frame cameras. My primary use-case is photography, along with time-lapse.
I feel the 7 III is very comfortable for shooting with more dials and better grip. But the only factor is, have seen a lot of posts online saying 7c has a slightly better auto focus and gyro data for video recording. How useful is the gyro in casual video shooting?
Any thoughts?
So i'm in the process to decide which will be my first full frame mirroless camera coming from canon DSLR.
I was almost set on Sony A7iii (maybe Riii) but then suddenly they dropped the a7c.
The tilt screen got me at first glance, than the size and than the fact that it seems the color is mor accurate and I couldn't se a any downside, plus it's even cheaper...
Is there something I'm missing here? To good to be true?
Whats the deal? Do you also think a7c is a better version of the a7iii?
I have an a7ii and went with the a7c (arrives tomorrow, super excited).
I never take my a7ii anywhere (except on predetermined shoots). And I don't even use all the buttons anyway. I think the button and evf sacrifices are fine for me as I hope to take my camera out more. i would sometimes throw the a6000 in the bag because of it's size but carrying an a7 is a conscious decision.
Either a7iii or a7c is better than what I currently have but for me, the a7c feels like a much different camera that would allow me to take it out a little bit more without sacrificing quality. it's a shame it's not priced lower than the a7iii (street-prices).
Besides, the tilt screen is invaluable for me these days.
7c - Better AF tracking, tilt screen, ~20% lighter
7III - more buttons/dials/joystick and better EVF
Same sensor so same image quality, colors, video specs, etc. Choosing between the two just depends on which of those things above do you prioritize.
Do I think it's better? Not really, no. The AF improvement is nice but it's not like the 7III was bad at tracking AF in video, it was actually one of the better cameras out there already. For me (you may be different) the ability to have a joystick, front dial, and a bigger EVF outweighs a tilt screen and marginally better AF.
I think 2nd gen 7c bodies will probably fix the few issues it has, so I may get one then. For you, again just depends on your particular needs/wants.
Hey everyone!
So I shoot events with a Sony a7iv, and it’s served me super well! I also own a Sony a7riii that is used as a backup- I’m looking to switch that camera out with something more compact that could also be used as an everyday and travel camera.
I would love to save some cash and get the a7c, but don’t want to regret buying it if the performance turns out to be not great.
What is everyone’s thoughts on these two cameras? Would the a7c suffice?
Thanks so much, I appreciate any input!
With the bodies currently discounted, I’m wondering which is a better body to get. A7Riii is $2000 and A7c $1600.
I’ve seen a lot of post asking about A7iii vs A7c and pretty much the consensus is A7c.
I can’t find any pros and cons comparison between the two.
Before the discount, I was leaning towards A7c as my main objective is lightweight for backpacking. But with price difference now less, I’m wondering if A7Riii would be a better body to get, as the higher megapixel will come in handy for cropping images. Main use is for photo (landscape , wildlife, astro, portrait, etc) and less for video.
I’m a hobbyist photographer that enjoys travel photography. Is the A7C still a good buy in 4Q 2023 or should I spend the money for the A7Cii to be future proof for 5 years or so?
The A7C is on sale and looks appealing at the price.
My use case is photos and small video clips of my vacations. Here are my thoughts about the A7CII in no particular order:
-
Initially it seemed like battery life was going to be much lower, but in real world usage of shooting vacation pics, there's practically no difference. It lasts me 2-3 days, ymmv.
-
The size and weight difference may not be significant from the specs, but it's definitely noticeable. It is much easier to carry in my hand and it's less torture on my shoulder when in my bag. Also when on my pgytech clamp, it sags way less.
-
The creators app is way better than the old Imaging Edge app: it connects MUCH faster, and there are more controls for remote shooting.
-
The shutter button of the A7CII needs to be depressed slightly more than the one on the A7III, I liked the latter better but no biggie.
-
Same for the ON OFF switch, it takes a bit of getting used to. I prefer the older implementation.
-
Flippy screen! Love it. Something that really bothered me on the A7III.
-
For a casual shooter like me, the number of custom buttons is just enough.
-
The new menu system is such a great improvement from the old one that I can't bear using the A7III's anymore.
-
Finally full touch functionality for tracking/focus, AE, settings, and also shooting.
-
The auto mode is a lot better than the A7III. It means I can just switch to auto, hand the camera to my wife and I can be guaranteed a good shot. As long as the horizon isn't tilted lol.
-
AF was already great on the A7III but it's CRAZY GOOD now. I've clicked pics and videos of running dogs and it latched on throughout. Only when the subject gets really small in the frame does it start to fail.
-
The viewfinder is not as good as the A7III's. If you want to compose using it with your other eye open as well, it won't work because the image is too small in the viewfinder.
-
I'm loving that the camera now supports streaming mode, people can now see me in all my splendor in zoom calls. Although I did run into it overheating and shutting off around the 1 hour mark. Battery life does not drain when connected to the PC by USB C as long as you have a good cable and a higher power output port.
-
On that note, the USB port is on the left side on the top, so when the screen is flipped out the cable tends to be over the screen. Not ideal.
-
The built in timelapse and bulb mode settings is great, I had a separate USB remote shutter release for my A7III that I don't need anymore.
-
I much prefer the unmarked exposure compensation dial on the A7CII.
Edit: Realized that the camera stopped overheating while streaming if the auto framing feature is turned off. Being a feature that uses the AI processor, I'd say that's understandable.
