I want to get into photography, I really enjoy taking pictures and spend a lot of time processing them on Lightroom.
I have been wanting to get into photography as a hobby for a while.
I realized I probably want to get a Full Frame camera, and now I am debating whether I should get the A7IV or A7III or A7C, what do you think?
I currently have an iPhone 14 pro, will I see a big improvement with an older camera, i.e A7c?

I had the same dilemma a month ago, but with a lot of travel this year I decided on the A7C. My last digital SLR is almost 10 years old and the A7C has completely blown me away both in image quality and autofocus ability. I'm sure the A7IV would be moderately better but I'm more focused on getting quality lenses so when I feel the need to upgrade to an A7RV I have lenses that can handle the extra resolution.

I think the biggest difference you'll see is going to be based more around your lens choices rather than the difference between any of those camera bodies, in the context of someone who is moving from a smartphone to a mirror less camera. Shooting full frame on a Lens that opens up to a 1.4, 1.8, or even 2 8 aperture is going to blow you away (in a good way) that is much more noticeable than the difference between any of the sensors contained in any of those cameras. So I'd say, go with the cheapest one if you don't have a strong pre-disposition for any of the features, and spend all the good money on some fast lenses that have decent to good sharpness and correction. The A7IV (I owned this camera) has mind insanely good autofocus, but when you're in Lightroom afterward, it's the lens you used that's going to really give you the quality (and bokeh, if you choose it) that makes editing more enjoyable. Again, this is in context of comparing the sensors in the three bodies you mentioned. I sold my A7IV because I didn't end up needing its great autofocus in a way that my A7Rii could do. So I spent the money instead on the 50mm f/1.2 (which honestly is overkill for me too lol) but wow does the 50mm give me a lot of quality in Lightroom to enjoy.

Are you doing video as well? If so the a7iv is a nice upgrade from the a7iii with 10bit 4k60 although I think with a 1.5 crop.

It is designed to be lightweight, while not terribly uncomfortable, I could see if you are using larger lenses for a long time without a strap this is going to get annoying. I know, I have done just that. However, if you are using it more as a travel camera, or b-camera, its size and weight are going to be beneficial, giving you all the awesome Sony quality and features you love, in a small travel-friendly package.
