Those WM1 press reveal was on February 8th, so 71 days from appearance to announcement. If we add 71 days to the December 22 date, we get March 3 2023 as a possible press reveal date. Short term confidentiality ends on March 27 2023, so Sony announcing these in early March is very possible.

Sony to Launch new High end Android Walkman to replace WM1-Series? - The Walkman Blog
Any new Walkman with Bluetooth and/or WiFi will appear on the FCC and if anything shows up soon, a release will occur this year, possibly September/October, but if nothing shows up until after Q3, then I would imagine we are looking at an early 2022 release. Perhaps Sony is waiting for LE Audio to be finalized to release this new walkman (or walkmans), but any new device which has the proper hardware for LE Audio could always be re-certified for LE Audio and then be updated using firmware.

WM1AM2 Walkman® DAP Music Player
The Sony NW-WM1AM2 Walkman DAP Music Player sits at the top of the Walkman series alongside its gold-plated sibling the NW-WM1ZM2 DAP. The NW-WM1AM2 DAP is one of Sony's more powerful digital music players with the ability to drive higher-impedance headphones—something most high-end portable digital audio players can't do. This DAP has a bigger screen, better battery life, and larger internal storage than the first-generation NW-WM1A Walkman model. Enjoy the subtlest nuances of studio-quality sound in higher than CD quality with high-resolution audio and up to 40 hours of non-stop FLAC high-re

Choosing a Sony DAP : r/walkman
May 19, 2024 - I did a similar search last year and ended up buying a new NW-A55 and used (in like new condition) NW-ZX300. I have the Mr Walkman One firmware on both and it's basically my endgame portable set up. I use the A55 on the go and the ZX300 around the house. ... Good question. It came down to 3 things. 1. Ability to alter sound via firmware. 2. Security 3. Battery life. Mr Walkman firmware basically gets you the highest end Sony sound on a smaller cheaper device.

April 13, 2024 - And the Sony NW-A306 Walkman is one such device, and unlike many DAPs, it's fairly affordable to boot at $350. So how could I, an Android fan from the very first device, miss out on this growing DAP scene powered by Android?

r/DigitalAudioPlayer on Reddit: Is buying a Sony NW-ZX707 in 2025 a mistake?
January 22, 2025 -

Looking for a new mid range DAP for music on the move & I'm considering taking the plunge & getting the NW-ZX707.

My primary focus is sound quality plain & simple.

Have always had good experiences with Sony Walkmans as far as support, sound quality & reliability go with the exception of test driving a A306 last year which was a bit ehhh I don't know.... tiny touchscreen & a bit sluggish so sent it back.

I know people recommend the IBasso dx180 on here but the brand is an unknown to me same goes for Shanling / Fiio and I would also need to import these from Japan to the UK or pay way over the odds so if they needed to be sent back for whatever reason it would be a lengthy pain in the butt.

I really didn't want android / internet connectivity etc as would only be using it to play local .flac files but it seems that all the players I've been looking at are android devices.

What other brands / models should I be looking at in the upto £500 price range. Don't want to spend more than this but would consider a used device.

The Sony & the IBasso have both been out for a while now and was wondering if either of them are still worth purchasing this year considering the SOC they're based on are starting to get a bit long in the tooth is there anything coming on the horizon this year that might be worth holding out for.

Cheers

I purchased the 707 3 weeks back and I’m loving it. Only issue I have is that i wish the start up was faster. Just have to wait for Android to boot up. I guess there is no way unless it just sleeps instead of turning it off but that would affect battery life. Sounds good and quite small. I’m happy with it.

I have had the NW-ZX707 for a few years now. I really enjoy it but it also frustrates me more often than not. The sound quality is great but a little underpowered for some higher impedance headphones and even some IEMs. The other issue is the processor seems to struggle at times downloading files in the background while playing music. I fault the Tidal app more than anything else as if I put downloads on pause the problem goes away. If I use YouTube music only there isn't an issue so maybe many DAPs will have this issue but my Android phone has no issue. I have been toying with doing a complete factory reset and not install Tidal to get a feel for that experience. I also have been using it mainly with IEMs lately and it performs with much more power especially using the balanced connection. Waiting for my Thieaudio Origin's to pair with it to see if it really shines there. Overall, I am mostly happy with my purchase as the hardware quality is excellent. The screen is a bit small and the touch sensitivity is a little lacking as you mentioned but other than that it is great. As with any electronics, there are new competitive products today as this product is getting a little dated but it still shines. I keep wanting to buy some of the new DAPs out there for comparison so maybe that will happen in 2025.
