After 3 years, we're switching our managed XDR solution and got a very competitive pricing offer for Sophos MDR Complete with Intercept X EDR and Fortigate firewall log integration. I’ve gone through various posts and often see people moving away from Sophos due to performance issues. Is that still the case with the latest versions (on PCs with full SSDs and at least 8GB of RAM)? Is the MDR Complete service effective?

The MDR Complete service is very effective. The security team operating within Sophos take relevant activity and actions happening on a users device in near real time to stop an active attack. Doing it natively with Sophos Intercept-X acting as the local security endpoint means better telemetry around forming attacks and response actions. As for performance, it's great these days but everyone's environment is different. Developers, especially those who compile and file servers where content is interacted with over SMB shares seem to be the pinch points where things just need to be tuned - but at least the visibility and guidance is there to help amend policies with the MDR team in tow. I'm curious, what was your previous solution?

Hi all,
my company plan to switch from our current endpoint security vendor to a new one. Do you have any recommendations cost-wise? I heard Sophos is pretty good but have no details. Also big names like Crowdstrike and SentinelOne are around but I am sure they cost a fortune. Small MSP, Europe. Also, any ideas about XDR? This is like everywhere!

Have a look at Heimdal (European vendor) and Huntress (minimum of 50 seats). Heimdal has an a la carte menu of modules you can pick and choose from and has a 24/7 SOC or MXDR service as they call it.

We like SOPHOS, and the pricing is good. If you get their firewalls you have integration between the two products. (don't get their switches, they've forgotten a few features) We also like their APs, rock solid. We also support Meraki and Sonicwall, so we have a few brands to compare for hardware regularly. On the occasions I've had to call support, they respond quickly and thoroughly. Like all AV products, you have to configure them correctly or they can slow things down a bit (like scans on shares for instance)

Trying to understand the correct pricing for these Sophos products - looks like we are being quoted a very high quote.

Also does the MDR quote for server is higher than the same thing for users - I understand windows server licensing works like this but how does this make sense for MDR which is basically the same service for user or server!
This quote is from CDW and from some reading here I see that they can be very expensive and their sales guys are being super aggressive and annoying with the whole "50% off if you renew in 2 days" type of language, which I really do not appreciate lol.
Logically it would make more sense to price users higher because there is a higher chance of users clicking something and getting infected which then triggers the MDR team - but I guess they just rely on people's false illusions that the word "server" sounds more complex and "servers do things" so we are going to just price server higher lol.
PS:
Also, what do you think about Sophos vs huntress or any other solution? I am curious to know both performance wise and the cost but mainly performance! I keep reading about how much everyone fanboys huntress here!

To be honest I’d suggest becoming a Sophos partner instead and talk with them about this instead of going directly through a reseller.

This pricing is not bad for CAD as an end client (non-MSP). The Sophos MDR complete includes features like cloud integration with M365 as well as their breach protection warranty and incident response. I would also recommend that you use a Sophos Firewall since the latest firmware coming out will include NDR Essentials.
