So it appears that the non-premium version of Sophos Home has been silently moved from "Free Edition" to "Free Trial". The dashboard is no longer functional and after updating the software it appears essentially bricked with nothing but an ad for premium.
Feels like the beginning of the end for Sophos. I understand sometimes a company will discontinue a product, but to pull the rug out from under me is unhelpful to say the least, especially on a security focused product.
I am very disappointed. I had previously considered upgrading to premium, but I do not consider Sophos an option anymore. I do not feel comfortable trusting my security to a company who will brick my AV with no advance warning.
No blog post or announcement in sight - in fact most of the website still says "Free" but the landing pages have been changed to "Free Trial".
Wondering if others are running into the same issues. Discussion is welcome.

Yes, I posted about this a few days ago. It’s a PR disaster. Absolutely no warning. Absolutely par for the course for a company that’s been acquired by ‘equity firms.’

I am wondering how strong is Sophos for Mac.
When I look at the product features page there are missing checkmarks on the Mac column.
Has anyone here used Sophos for Mac? Does it offer a SOC, for example?

Ill answer them apart macOS - Yes, they have good protection for Mac. There are some differences there, but not many compared to Windows. As for the SOC question: Yep!. They call it MTR, well, now they call it MDR, which is basically their SOC as a Service. Pretty solid service, have no complaints, and I've had the chance to do the MDR EAP they are doing which basically allowed me to integrate my Identity systems into Sophos and their SOC will respond based on that data too. Supposed to be a Firewall and Email integration too, but i use all Sophos stuff anyway, so don't necessarily need those unless my customer wants to hold on to some other vendors stuff.

I installed Sophos for a week with Ventura (MacOS 13) and had quite a few issues. The Sophos icon was yellow in the menu bar often and claimed I was unprotected. The workaround from support was to kill the main Sophos app in activity monitor or CLI. When Sophos respawned, it was fine and showed green with no changes in settings. Then I started seeing a lot slower ping times on my network access, followed by total network drops, and finally a full crash today when "remoted" had an issue. I removed Sophos and pings are back to normal and no further issues. My experience doesn't mean it won't work for you, just keep an eye on things. Sophos also doesn't like to only turn on base features. It always wanted to monitor my network use which I found more than I desired. I just want AV. For my purposes, it should monitor writes to the drive for AV scanning/detection but not be inserting itself into my network path.
