I just picked up a q990b. It’s honestly amazing. Can’t believe how good it is for such a simple system. As far as I’m concerned it makes any entry to mid-range Atmos system obsolete. As for sound, it really does surround you in a bubble. You can hear things all around you. It is nothing like an “improved stereo sound”. It’s a replacement for a proper Atmos surround system, keeping in mind the price point. The caveat is that the source needs to be Atmos. Your PS5 will sound fantastic. The anime’s I’m not sure depends, and YouTube is likely to be stereo or 5.1 I would think. So far I’ve only been streaming and Disney + seems to be best. Senheiser ambeo absolutely the best if you have the money then Samsung 990b then jbl 9.1 then Samsung 930b. I’m looking to replace my sound bar and have been researching. This is my opinion based on what I’ve seen and read. The Samsung’s have been reported to have connections issues with pairing. Bose and Sonos could be up there but can get quite expensive when adding the sub and rear speakers. More on reddit.com

Any soundbar-based system relies on acoustic reflections to achieve its 3D sound bubble. As a result, your room is as big a factor as the system itself. It would be more interesting if people shared their point of reference. Coming from TV speakers, I'm sure that an Atmos soundbar sounds amazing / convincing / enveloping / surrounding. But what if you're comparing to an actual Atmos set up? I have a 5.1.4 Atmos setup in my basement, with 4 in-ceiling speakers. I needed a soundbar for my living room (per the wife), and decided to give the Atmos bar a try. Picked up a Sony A5000 to pair with my X90L. I was rather disappointed. I really thought / hoped that bouncing the sound off the ceiling would deliver some of that overhead magic. But IMHO, it mostly dispersed the sound, but didn't give any convincing overhead effects. I replaced the A5000 with an A3000, which lacks the up-firing speakers, but still utilizes Sony's Vertical Surround Engine, which is supposed to fake Atmos without the up-firing speakers. I didn't think it was much different than the A5000. Are they both better than the TV? For sure, by miles. Better than my 8 year old Vizio 2.1? Pretty much, but not by the leaps and bounds that I expected. They definitely add a level of space and separation that the TV and my previous bar did not. But I would not be spending $500+ to chase fake Atmos over clear dialog.
