r/Soundiiz on Reddit: Why is Soundiiz so bad at matching songs?
August 20, 2025 -

I used Soundiiz to transfer my Spotify library to Apple Music. It missed quite a few songs. A couple were songs that genuinely aren't on Apple Music, but 90% were available on both services with the same artist and name. Not just the niche indie stuff either, I'm talking about songs w/ 1B+ plays like "Welcome to the Jungle", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Speed of Sound", etc.

It's a convenient service but I kind of regret spending money on it when I have to go in and do a bunch of manual transfers anyways.

EDIT: Just tested with YouTube Music also, it missed about a third as many songs. Seems like it particularly struggles with Apple Music?

Yeah I do monthly backups of my giant apple music library to Spotify playlists using soundiiz (my apple music library is so large that apple's servers sometimes screw up and desync, deleting large bunches of my music) My Spotify backups usually sit around 93%. Excluding stuff that's not on Spotify at all, if I go through the results, I can see that a lot of popular songs that are on Spotify aren't matched. There's also the occasional match on Spotify with a vaporwave cover of a popular song but that's always been an issue. It sucks but at the moment I can't think of anything else better, and soundiiz is helping me with those 93% so I can't complain too much.

Hi! First, about "Why is Soundiiz so bad at matching songs?"; the good question is "Why so bad at matching songs?" in general. As it's not a Soundiiz issue. The lack of a music online industry metadata standard is the problem that we, Soundiiz, are trying to solve when it comes to doing a matching process. For example, ISRC; while it's a kind of standard (similar to a song over different albums...), not all platforms have such a value (or are accessible with the API) and even when they have them, there's a lot of wrong songs associated with them or a different one... Yes, agree, it's a complete mess. Outside of this ISRC value, many songs feature multiple artists. Some platforms display them in the title value, others in the artist field, and some in the album version. About remixes, same, some in the album field, some even not in the title or album field but in another one. What about a "deluxe/remaster" version? Even worse, sometimes indicated, sometimes no, sometimes the year, sometimes no, etc... So, yes, it's a hard job. That's why, despite being around since 2013, Soundiiz has had to rely on other streaming platforms to support this feature natively, with many relying on Us for over a decade. We're only two at Soundiiz, so keep trying to take on that challenge. So yes; it's far to be perfect and as a customer you are right to be disappointed. But keep in mind that there's no miraculous solution for that. Only minor improvements over years we made and appreciated feedback to tune that matching process. We prefer "not matching" over "wrong matches," as the latter requires twice the customer time (checking all matched items and then adding good ones) instead of just adding missing items. So, if not already done, send us a Help ticket with a few examples and we will investigate them to check if there are possible improvements, which will be very helpful :)

Obligatory "I have zero connection to this service, just a user satisfied with their experience."

I am actually shocked at how well this works. I regularly get Spotify playlists from clients for weddings/parties and wanted them to be accessible in my Prime Go. With deep cynicism in my heart, started looking into services to convert these playlists to Tidal and Beatsource and was startled when Soundiiz worked as well as it did. Crisp and easy to navigate UI that actually works.

As a sidebar, it's immensely disappointing that Engine STILL doesn't support pre-analysis of a Tidal playlist. And I don't know if it's just me, but I'm having some issues lately with bugginess, where downloading more than a song or two from a Tidal playlist at a time can cause the Prime Go to crash.

In any case, pleasantly surprised that Beatsource is cooperating as well as it is. The tracks are pre-analyzed and my experience has been downloads are MUCH faster and more reliable than in Tidal. The library is limited, of course, but I am typically getting about 80% of popular songs on playlists so that's something.

It's been a life saver for me! Easily convert Spotify playlists to Tidal or vice versa. Youtube, Deezer, Napster, Qobuz ... they're all supported. You can even use text or m3u playlist files!

It's completely changed the way I listen to music. I love the Spotify interface, but playing Tidal through UAPP just sounds better on my rig. So I look through new stuff on Spotify, dump all the cool new things in a playlist and in Soundiiz convert it to a Tidal playlist. Done!

Conversion rate highly depends on the style of music, but it's certainly worth a shot!
