I have a the previous gen Speed Queen front loader. Quick look, it appears to be the same machine but with different control panel. I went with the front versus top loader since my savings in water paid for the additional cost within several years, not including additional savings from reduced cost of drying clothes (due to them coming out from the washer more dry). I've had it for maybe 5 years with no issue. It does tend to walk a bit due to being on a Wood construction floor. I'm planning to add a layer of 3/4 inch ply underneath it to help stiffen the floor and attach isolators on the front feet. Electrolux washing machine is on its last leg, and we are ready for a BIFL investment in a washing machine. Anyone have experience with Speed Queen's Front Loader (FF7005WN)? Is it as good as the top loaders? The increased gentleness on clothes + better water efficiency is the primary motivator to go with a front loader over a top, but open to alternative opinions if people have thoughts. Thanks!

I just purchased the Speed Queen front loader. I went to the store yesterday, at at that time, I chose the top loader; however, since I do have some king size quilts, I swapped out today for the front loader machine. It should be here next week. I had a Maytag washing machine. The digital part conked out on me again, last week. Dead, so hand washing it is for me. This is the second time it’s done that in less than seven months. It’s still under warranty; however, I decided to just purchase another washing machine. After a lot of research, I chose the Speed Queen. I have not used a front loader machine, consistently, since college. That was many years ago.

Washer/Dryer recommendations. Narrowed it down to Speed Queen or LG

I'm in the repair business so my perspective could be very different from your other recommendations here. Speed Queen is excellent BUT their front loading machines are not the most efficient on the market by a long shot. People who prefer front loading machines, line myself like them due to their water savings and long term durability. Speed Queen has the durability part down but they use up to twice as much water....and more water does NOT equate to better cleaning. LG is fine, but middle of the road and far better than Samsung, but they still have parts availability issues. That's improving but historically it's been poor nationally. That being said, the units with easier parts accessibility and excellent service records are indeed Maytag front loading units and the GE Ultra Fresh series. Those units are easier to repair than most and if you take care of them they will last a long time. People tend to not do the basic maintenance such as cleaning the washing machine and dryer filters regularly and using a cleanser on occasion to keep odors and potential mold issues at bay (the GE Ultra Fresh series uses antimicrobial coatings which seems to hold up well). Unpopular opinion, I hate my Speed Queen

There’s a lot of fetishizing of speed queen around here but I’m pretty unconvinced. As far as I can tell they’re loud, use a lot of energy, use a lot of water, beat your clothing up and don’t clean very well. With that as the background, the fact that they never die seems more like a curse than a positive attribute. More on reddit.com
