I change the lid lock all the time, they over tighten them from the factory I think and the bezel breaks, easy fix. I have changed the valves several times over the years, and the biggest issue has been the lower control board. There are 2 boards on the machine, the lower and the upper. The lower is the brains of the machine and the upper is the user interface. I have never changed the top for an issue with the top board. Have changed several if the lower. That said they now have a fix for the lower board, which is changing out the upper board. So far that seems to have fixed the issue. If I were you I would make sure to purchase from a place that does their own service, its easier to get service done that way. I read great reviews and then read nightmare reviews. Our local appliance shop swears by SQ.
So…what’s your SQ experience? Are the negative reviews outliers or are there legitimate problems with SQ?

Had mine for five years and it’s currently with me in my third home in that timeframe. It is a tank. Works as good as the day I first turned it on. Quiet, quick, effective. No one makes a perfect product, but no one makes as good a product as Speed Queen. Disclaimer: I am an appliance salesman.

After 11-12 years my basic GE Top loader washer died. The motor needs a start capacitor most likely, but the transmission/tub bearing makes noise, and it's leaking slightly out the bottom of the tub, so it was time for a replacement.
Went to the local appliance store, after calling a few in the area and ended up buying a SpeedQueen TR7. It was $100 more then the TC5 and it came with a 7 year warranty instead of 5 year, and more importantly in stock. It wasn't cheap by any means. We wanted the TR series after reading reviews of it being kinder on thin, synthetic clothes which we wear quite a few of. The salesman said the electronics actually have fewer warranty claims then the old mechanical switches of the TC series due to where they put them, a little hard to believe but plausible.
In the days since the purchase before delivery here I have read a little more, the Consumer reports updated review of the TR7 isn't great. It does have better than expected reliability which is what we wanted I suppose, but cleaning performance isn't great. We know to not use eco mode, which is fine. I guess the other thing that bothers me is the "small" tub at 3.2ft. We just got married and thats the size of our old machine which is fine for two, but my concern is if we have a kid or two will we regret buying a smaller machine for the long haul? Or do you just get over it and do more loads?

Beyond happy with our new purchase. We were tired of our washer and dryer having problems despite only being a few years old. They are definitely built like a tank. I am impressed at the speed of these cycles compared to our old lg front loads. I can’t get over how quiet the washer is on a full spin cycle. Only downside I found was the lack of black options. The Mrs was dead set on having black which limited us to the 7 models.
