August 5, 2022 -
Hey, does spending money and free money count as “money to spend”? Let’s say a friend asks me out with him and I answer“unfortunately I don’t have any free money at the moment” Is it correct way to reply? And I’m looking for any alternative synonyms for “money to spend”, thank you all. P.S formal and everyday synonyms would be great, thanks.

"free money" is usually money you get for doing nothing - it's fairly negative and the idea is you are receiving money (from the government) without working. It's usually used in business contexts. - Corporate America Embraces Short-Term IOUS as Free Money Ends So in this case it wouldn't work. In the situation where your friend invites you to dinner, and you don't want to or can't spend the money, here's some alternatives: Friend: "Hey do you want to go out to an expensive restaurant tonight?" You #1: "No thanks, I don't have any extra money right now." You #2: "No thanks, I'm broke right now." [informal but okay with friends] You #3: "No thanks, I don't have money to spend on restaurants right now" [more formal] You #4: "No thanks, I'm not really into spending money on expensive restaurants" [this means you have money, but don't like spending it on expensive restaurants]
