r/namenerds on Reddit: Is Sage a hippie name?
February 13, 2023 -
My baby girl is due in July and currently my husband's favorite name from our list is Sage. I also love the name. I like that it is simple, short and sweet, and isn't extremely common without being too out there. My only worry about the name is that it sounds too "hippie" or "crunchy," neither of which would describe me or my husband lol. Just wondering if I'm the only one who thinks this. When you hear the name Sage what associations do you have?

Sage definitely gives me crunchy, Pacific Northwest vibes. I envision a person born in Seattle who willingly drinks kombucha and talks about positive affirmations.

I really like the name Sage. It feels like Paige's quieter sister. To me it doesn't necessarily scream hippie. Maybe a bit artsy - it kind of just falls in with the many other nature names that are popular right now (Hazel, Iris, Violet, Lily, Rowan, Magnolia, Ivy etc). If you love the name, I think you should use it! I think it would be especially lovely paired with a more classic name in the middle, like Sage Elizabeth. Congrats on your pregnancy and good luck!

Texas sage cenizo name has a deeper spiritual meaning
Texas sage is an ideal native plant for the Texas Hill Country. It grows quickly with little rainfall and likes our shallow, alkaline soil. The large bushes around the campus are probably less than 10 years old. Because of the leaves’ coloration, it is also called Cenizo, Spanish for “ashen.” There’s a Mexican American folktale that gives the name a deeper meaning, one that fits the spiritual philosophy of finding answers through a power greater than ourselves.
