One solution that will allow you to still individually move your sides would be to use a flex top or solid Sleep Number sheet set. It will keep you from falling in the gap, but still allow movement. I have some customers who also use a flextop or solid topper or mattress, pad and sheet, however the more layers on top tomorrow awkward individual movement might be. The good thing is that with these solutions, you are not forcing more into the split, and as needs change, or as you figure out how to cuddle or have activities side to side they can be removed. r/Mattress on Reddit: Gap Filler Needed for Split King (non-adjustable)?
September 5, 2018 -

My wife and I purchased identical split twin XL mattresses because we could not fit a king up the attic stairs (we converted our attic to a master BR). We will not be using them on adjustable frames. We intend to use a 2 inch king latex topper AND a king quilted mattress pad to go under the king fitted sheet we will be using over both mattresses.

My question is: will we still need a gap filler to avoid falling the the space between two mattresses? Or will we be okay with the two pads and the fitted sheet holding everything together? Mattress arrives soon, so depending on the replies, I may order a gap filler to arrive at the same time.

Thanks in advance for your replies!!!!

r/Mattress on Reddit: Having trouble eliminating a split king gap
October 16, 2017 -

I've been renting a room for a year now and the bed is really killing me. It's two smaller mattresses in a split king frame. Unfortunately I could only sleep on one side of the bed otherwise I start going into the gap and it's really uncomfortable.

I bought this gap filler thing that helps slightly, but every once in a while I have to move it around because it goes out of place.

On top of that I also built a quilted mattress topper which helps much more, but I can still really only sleep on one side comfortably because I can still feel a gap or a bump in the middle of the bed.

So I was thinking maybe I should also get a 2inch memory foam topper to put underneath the quilted one? Does anyone think that'll help or have any other suggestions? I can't buy a new bed or frame sadly

Edit: solution was to move out of that flat. My back is so much happier for it.

We have a split King on the way and we're worried that the gap between the beds will be a trap for remotes and cell phones. Is there a bed sheet or other product on the market that would put some kind of elastic fabric between? Thinking something stretchy that could withstand one bed adjusted while the other is flat. I tried poking around Amazon but couldn't find anything like that.

My wife and I have a flex top sleep number king sized bed. We love the bed, but I would love to find a product that I could use to fill the gap when I want it filled. So far I've looked all over online and cannot find any products that are intended to fill it. Has anyone found anything for this?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good Split King Gap Filler Bed Bridge for Beds with Adjustable Bases? Me and my partner each have a Twin XL mattress that makes a Split King and want a Gap Filler that is comfortable to lay on for bed activities, but will also stay in place when one of us is propped up on their mattress with their base and the other one is laying completely flat on their mattress with their base. We wanted one that would stay in this situation so we don’t have to keep tossing it off the bed and bringing it back on when we want it. Does one of these exist?

Thinking of getting a dual king setup, for example two twin xl tempurpedics with separate adjustable bases.

Asking cause two twins is like 2000 more than a regular king.

Downsides to split king: -More expensive -Gap in the center is always there -Changing sheets can be annoying for some -Mattresses can shift around some I like split/flex head king setups way better, you get like 90% of the benefits of split king but changing the sheets is the only downside you keep. If you’re dead set on TempurPedic (your preference, but IMO they’re overpriced and definitely not what they used to be), you could always get split head sheets like DreamFit makes and they’ll help with the downsides of the split king.

If you & your partner want different adjustments, then it is the only way to go. I am a side sleeper and I would hate a single king because my wife uses Zero Gravity all the time. Yes, the gap is kind of annoying and makes it harder to lay across the bed and impacts snuggling, but everything in life is tradeoffs, so decide what things are the most important to you. You can get a gap filler pad and straps to pull everything together tighter if you decide to sync the bases. I have not tried them. We decided to go all-in on split king experience and bought twin xl bedding so we have separate comforters and sheets. I have a silk comforter in the summer and a kapok comforter in the winter. She has a lightweight phase-change-material summer comforter and a down comforter in the winter. I sleep without a top sheet and she has a top sheet. Making the bed is a bit chaotic, but honestly sleeping is better since we never steal each others cover and the sheets don't get tangled up.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Adjustable split-king bed with 2 mattress toppers or 1 big one?
June 13, 2024 -

My split-king adjustable beds' mattresses aren't the most comfortable. I don't regret getting an adjustable bed but do regret getting the split-king (two extra long twin beds together) instead of one.

These latex-hybrid mattresses are kinda flat and firm. I'm missing my tufted pillow top - both soft and firm.

I'd like to get either two split king (twin XL) toppers or one king sized one. Maybe eggshell or some quilted wool type thing, or possibly 2" foam.

From your experience or hypothesizing, would it be smarter to buy two mattress toppers or one large one? Is one kind better for this than others?

I adjust the beds as if one bed so they'll always move together, and I use a mattress protector which has corner straps plus a king bottom sheet with strong corner straps. Would/should the mattress protector go over the topper/s I assume?

My concerns: there may be more of a risk of the topper tearing just because the mattresses eventually always start to come apart regardless of corner straps and the weight of a body while separating might start a tear; two toppers might just make the separating issue more dramatic even if they don't tear. Lastly I worry about how badly it might bunch up from the mattress bending up so much.

Anyone have experience with this or recommend the "right" kind? Thanks!!

Twin XL "SPLIT KING" Gap issue. How to solve? - General Mattresses Questions - Mattress Underground
May 22, 2013 - Any recommendations on how to solve this center gap issue? We haven’t decided on a bed frame yet, so perhaps that’s a part of the issue. But we are using 2 raze adjustable beds with the wheels locked. But still the beds part in the middle after our 60 pound boxer lays in the “void” i have read on amazon about the “create a king” but it doesn’t have great reviews and seems cheap.

I am looking into getting the NectarSleep split king adjustable frame with 2 twin XL mattresses. I stay up late reading while my husband always falls asleep so I don't think we would want the regular adjustable one. My concern however is though that we will be able to notice the "crack" between the two mattresses while were sleeping (I am all over the bed but I won't admit this ever out loud to my husband lol). Anyone that has done two twins together, is the gap super noticeable?

r/Mattress on Reddit: King or Split king? Help us decide
March 5, 2025 -

Hi there! My husband and I are really struggling with sleep lately. Context: We’re 27 years old, married for 2 years. Currently have a queen hybrid mattress that has been great up until the last couple of months. All of a sudden I’ve started sleeping horribly and I’ve become really sensitive to my husband’s movements waking me up CONSTANTLY. I’m waking up anywhere between 7-15 times in one night and I’m exhausted. We’ve resorted to one of us sleeping on the couch most nights because we can’t take it anymore. It’s so sad because we miss each other and value sleeping in the same bed for the daily connection it provides in our relationship. We’re now seriously considering a mattress upgrade because we’re desperate.

My biggest concern is movement transfer, so I believe a foam mattress would be best. A split king sounds ideal since that would reduce movement transfer the most, but I’m worried about the crack in the middle of the 2 mattresses. We definitely use the center of our current mattress for cuddling and “other activities” regularly, and I’ve read some reviews about the crack being an issue. I’ve also seen people get things like a foam crack filler, a band that holds the 2 mattresses together, and retaining bars to keep them in place. We’re willing to get all those things if it helps. Ugh I feel like we’re too young and too newly married to get a split mattress lol 😭

My concern with a regular king size foam mattress is that it might not reduce motion transfer enough to improve sleep quality.

Other considerations: we’re mostly side sleepers but occasionally sleep on stomach and back. Both average weight. I prefer mattresses on the medium to firm side because I have back and hip issues.

What are your thoughts and recommendations? Would appreciate hearing from your experiences with a split king. Thank you!! 🫶🏻

Anyone here actually have a split king mattress? If so I am looking to hear about your experience with them? Was the space/gap in between the mattresses ever an issue or annoying? Do you wish you would have a full sized king?

We are worried that maybe it won’t be so enjoyable as it sounds, considering the gap in the middle. And also we feel like it might make it hard for our children and dog to sleep with us from time to time or lay down in the same bed as us and watch movies.

We are also interested in getting the split king bases as well. Right now we are looking into both the Tempurpedic and Sleep Number models.

Any feedback would be great. We don’t want to make any mistakes the first time around, considering the price tag!!!

r/Mattress on Reddit: How to keep split king (twin xl) mattresses from moving apart on adjustable base?
February 25, 2024 -

We have a split king with adjustable base. We also have dogs and a 9yo son, which means our twin xl mattresses get split apart constantly. Every day I have to rescue blankets from “the crack” and push the mattresses together. Does anyone have any good methods to keep the mattresses together? Has anyone tried attach some kind of a bracket to the sides of the base to prevent the mattresses from sliding off, kind of like the wire bracket at the foot of the base?

Edit: I bought these brackets.
