Anyone here actually have a split king mattress? If so I am looking to hear about your experience with them? Was the space/gap in between the mattresses ever an issue or annoying? Do you wish you would have a full sized king?
We are worried that maybe it won’t be so enjoyable as it sounds, considering the gap in the middle. And also we feel like it might make it hard for our children and dog to sleep with us from time to time or lay down in the same bed as us and watch movies.
We are also interested in getting the split king bases as well. Right now we are looking into both the Tempurpedic and Sleep Number models.
Any feedback would be great. We don’t want to make any mistakes the first time around, considering the price tag!!!
Wife and I got a King size Purple RestorePlus Hybrid that we love. However my wife is a back sleeper and prefers 'zero g' on the adjustable base, I'm a side/stomach sleeper and prefer flat.
She wants to trade in for a split king (our base is already split) but I'm hesitant. Our kids and dog often climb into bed and lay between us, and I'm worried about the crack between the two mattresses gobbling them up.
My wife thinks the crack isn't an issue and the bed would still feel like a single king. Anyone have input?

We are looking to get a split king adjustable bed. My fiance moves a lot in his sleep and sometimes snores and I’m a light sleeper, and I cannot do memory foam it’s way too firm for me so we want the split king. I’ve looked up countless brands, every brand seems pretty good and then I see threads saying it’s the worst mattress/company of all time. I’m going insane trying to decide on one.
Sleep number is the only one that I can’t generally find terrible reviews for - most people seem to like those beds for a long time or so it seems. Main downside being how pricey it is. Anyone have thoughts on sleep number split king or any other brand recommendations?
Hubby and I are looking at making this our next mattress. We currently have a regular king size but it needs replacing(crappy S mattress). We constantly rotate it to even out the “ridge” and I am wondering if 2twin XL mattresses would be better?
Anyone have any experience with one?
Fuller description of sleep issues here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sleep/comments/13k231y/i_sleep_better_when_im_in_a_separate_bed_from_my/
In short, over the last several months, I've been remembering getting woken up by my spouse more, and at the same time I was getting more and more tired during the day. Upgrading from a queen to a king mattress helped a little bit, but the issue still persists. Sleeping in separate beds is not an option, because my spouse views our time together in bed sleeping as valuable intimacy in their life.
I've tried several things to alleviate me getting woken up by my spouse, with some success, but I'm still tired during the day.
It seems the only option left is to get a split king mattress (which my spouse says will still count as sleeping in the same bed for their needs) and hoping that completely isolates me from my spouse's movements.
Will a split king mattress accomplish this? Or will it just open up a different style or flavor of getting woken up by my spouse's movements at night?
My husband (34m) and I (35f) have been buying cheap Amazon memory foam mattresses for the last decade but we have gotten to the point they aren’t comfortable or holding up the way we need.
Background…. My husband is 5’8 and 210 lbs with degenerative disk disease. His lower back and occasionally ribs end up really painful at night. He also does shift work so his sleep cycle is a mess from that too. He is primarily a back sleeper but will occasionally shift to either side. From my research he needs a firm hybrid style mattress no more memory foam. I am 5’6 and 140 lbs. I am getting to the age that sleeping wrong can kink my neck or back occasionally but otherwise I don’t have chronic back problems like he does. We have had a firm memory foam mattress and I couldn’t sleep on it. I am primarily a side sleeper but occasionally a back sleeper. My hips and shoulders were dying and I kept moving to my kid’s bed. He wasn’t feeling like it was that beneficial for him at the time so we added a softer topper and that was great for me but since then the memory foam broke down on his side and we need something new asap.
I’ve been casually reading through posts and comments and I’ve come up with two ideas. A split king or a firm king with two different twin toppers to suit our different needs and a mattress cover to help hold it all together. I’ve seen a lot about diy beds but we are both neurodivergent and it just feels like a lot of spoons to do more than a base and topper tbh.
We will be financing this with a credit card or through the mattress company but we would really prefer to keep it around $2k or less if possible. I get that you often get what you pay for but 2k is a lot of money for us to spend.
If you made it this far I really appreciate it!
Hi there! My husband and I are really struggling with sleep lately. Context: We’re 27 years old, married for 2 years. Currently have a queen hybrid mattress that has been great up until the last couple of months. All of a sudden I’ve started sleeping horribly and I’ve become really sensitive to my husband’s movements waking me up CONSTANTLY. I’m waking up anywhere between 7-15 times in one night and I’m exhausted. We’ve resorted to one of us sleeping on the couch most nights because we can’t take it anymore. It’s so sad because we miss each other and value sleeping in the same bed for the daily connection it provides in our relationship. We’re now seriously considering a mattress upgrade because we’re desperate.
My biggest concern is movement transfer, so I believe a foam mattress would be best. A split king sounds ideal since that would reduce movement transfer the most, but I’m worried about the crack in the middle of the 2 mattresses. We definitely use the center of our current mattress for cuddling and “other activities” regularly, and I’ve read some reviews about the crack being an issue. I’ve also seen people get things like a foam crack filler, a band that holds the 2 mattresses together, and retaining bars to keep them in place. We’re willing to get all those things if it helps. Ugh I feel like we’re too young and too newly married to get a split mattress lol 😭
My concern with a regular king size foam mattress is that it might not reduce motion transfer enough to improve sleep quality.
Other considerations: we’re mostly side sleepers but occasionally sleep on stomach and back. Both average weight. I prefer mattresses on the medium to firm side because I have back and hip issues.
What are your thoughts and recommendations? Would appreciate hearing from your experiences with a split king. Thank you!! 🫶🏻
I am looking into getting the NectarSleep split king adjustable frame with 2 twin XL mattresses. I stay up late reading while my husband always falls asleep so I don't think we would want the regular adjustable one. My concern however is though that we will be able to notice the "crack" between the two mattresses while were sleeping (I am all over the bed but I won't admit this ever out loud to my husband lol). Anyone that has done two twins together, is the gap super noticeable?
Do you love it, do you hate it? What are some things that surprise you about it? what do you wish you would’ve known before you got it?
Hey all,
I am looking to replace my aged King. I am thinking to get an adjustable base 2 twin xls and I like a more plush mattress but my wife likes a firm mattress. I am thinking of either silk and snow, hamuq or logan and cove. Most of these if I get different firmness levels the mattress height changes. Any thoughts on how to get different plush mattress and not have an inch or two of mattress height difference. Lol I am already a bit worried about the gap.
Can someone explain king split mattresses to me, I thought this was straight forward but I must be missing something.
What I think it is: So the basic idea seems that you have a king mattress where you can have each half be different. Firmness being the #1 thing. I've seen some examples where it's two completely different mattresses just next to each other.
I guess first question, is there a split king mattress that just looks like one mattress but internally are two different ones? One side firm the other soft.
My next question is when purchasing I never see an option to choose each side of the mattress. I would think there would be an option to configure both sides.
I feel like I'm completely missing something, and you know as a introvert millennial I decided to ask a bunch of random people in the internet rather than to walk into a mattress firm and talk to a sales rep.
Background: Me and my partner have been using a soft mattress for a while now, they love it but it's been such a pain for me. I really want to go back to a firm spring mattress or something close. We initial tough of a sleep number since that's their whole advertising each side chooses their firmness. Then I came across the concept of a split mattress and touch that would be a simpler solution to my problem.
So the wife and I recently purchased a mattress set. We tried the beds out over 4-5 visits about two months ago. The style of bed the retailer sells is a mattress combined, in most cases, with a separate topper. Overall we were happy with many of the beds and the fact that we could more easily compare between options (all under one brand).
The issue is that my wife wanted to try out the beds on her own because she felt pressure from me . So I said sure, go try them out and let me know. She ends up calling me about 45 mins before closing time to let me know she was ready to buy. I was eager because we had been sleeping on a cal king mattress and I eastern king bed we had purchased for two weeks.
I went to make the purchase and only when I was looking at the invoice did I notice something off. Price was higher than anticipated because the seller/owner convinced my wife to get a split king. Store was closing and I had little time to process. Should have stopped it right there but I went ahead because my wife liked the idea of getting an adjustable bed that she could control for each side…at some point in the future.
There was very little purpose to have a split king because both mattresses were the same. But the worst part was that even with the topper, I could really feel the center was much firmer than the rest of the bed. And, as it turns out, we use the center of the bed a lot. They had a not return/exchange policy so I didn’t mention anything to my wife. But I was not happy.
I reached out to the owner to express my disappointment. As it turns out, we could not even add an adjustable base because of our bed frame. So there was REALLY no reason to have a split bed. Anyway, the owner begrudgingly traded the split for a king. I didn’t really care how he felt about it, but nonetheless appreciate that he gave in.
Anyway, be sure that you really want a split but it can render the center of the bed somewhat useless. Or at least, very difference from the rest of the bed.
Looking for a new mattress. Coming from a sleep number king mattress that's about 20 years old and needs replacing. Wife and I like the idea of a split king with adjustable base, but are pretty sure we would not like the gap during cuddle time. So looking into split-top/flex-top mattresses that only split the top roughly 1/3 of the mattress.
Any recommendations?
My girlfriend and I moved in together a few months ago, and we brought her mattress with us. Unfortunately, I’ve discovered there are dips in the mattress that are causing me terrible hip pain. For reference, I’m 5’8” and 185 lbs, and she’s slightly shorter and lighter. We’re both side sleepers, and to be honest, we’re both poor sleepers in general.
On top of that, we both deal with autoimmune issues that cause joint pain, so we’re really hoping to find something that offers better support and relief while we sleep. To complicate things further, I occasionally have bad allergies and snore, which has led us to consider a split king adjustable bed. It seems like a great compromise because I can elevate my head to reduce snoring when needed, without disturbing her sleep. The separate mattresses would also help prevent us from waking each other up when one of us is tossing and turning (did I mention we’re both restless sleepers?), while still allowing us to get close if we choose.
I don’t have a huge budget, but I’m willing to invest in something that can genuinely improve our sleep, alleviate pain, and last for years. I’m considering the Sleep Science 13" Bamboo Cool Mattress with the Q Plus Split King Adjustable Base from Costco, which is priced at $1,999.99, plus $85 for delivery and setup. I’m leaning towards paying for setup since I’m not sure how heavy and difficult the base might be to assemble.
Does anyone have experience with this mattress or split king adjustable beds in general? Any advice, insights, or warnings before I make this big purchase would be incredibly appreciated. I want to make sure I’m making the right decision and not a costly mistake. Thanks in advance for your help!
I am in the market for a split king. We are interested in split king mattresses and adjustable bases.
I prefer not to pay ~$8.5K for a tempurpedic setup. Mainly because it didn't feel much better than the hybrid mattresses I have tried moreover I am not certain about all foam mattress' longevity.
For example Sealey posturepedic plus from Costco felt good. The problem is they don't sell twin xl/split king for that one.
I liked the ergo bases. I like massage, usb, head/foot lift not interested in lumbar support. Again Costco doesn't seem to sell a similar base.
However, I have seen several split king options with base such as the Sleep Science 13" bamboo with q-plus adjustable base.

Does anyone have experience with this brand? I seems like a good deal at around $2K base + mattress.
I wish it was a hybrid but if it is decent I can give it a try.
We have a split king with adjustable base. We also have dogs and a 9yo son, which means our twin xl mattresses get split apart constantly. Every day I have to rescue blankets from “the crack” and push the mattresses together. Does anyone have any good methods to keep the mattresses together? Has anyone tried attach some kind of a bracket to the sides of the base to prevent the mattresses from sliding off, kind of like the wire bracket at the foot of the base?
Edit: I bought these brackets.
We recently ordered a king Saatva classic for our primary bedroom. We have the same mattress in our guest room in a queen. Had it for about 5 years and we use it pretty regularly because my husband often works off hours and so I often sleep in there to avoid being disturbed.
It’s been 16 years since our existing king was delivered. I recall it was tricky to get it up our stairs but they were able to do it. It is a traditional pillow top innerspring mattress. The queen mattress (also upstairs) was delivered and set up with no problem.
Well, the mattress was delivered today and they couldn’t get it up the stairs. The delivery guys suggested that I talk to Saatva about getting two twin beds or I imagine either two xl twins or a split king.
How viable in that option in terms of comfort and stability? Saatva is supposed to call me to figure out our next steps. I already have a new Saatva mattress pad I was intending to use on the bed but no topper (and would prefer to not use a topper).
TIA!
I have come to the conclusion as we get older one firmness will not suit us—I am a lightweight side sleeper and he is an average weight back sleeper. Has anyone split a king and regretted it? It would be a big step up for us on a queen but I imagine the middle would be weird, especially as we’re looking at beds with enhanced coil perimeters.
We're shopping for a high-end, king-size bed. Think Savoir, Hästens or ViSpring.
Especially with Hästens, I have the impression that salespeople recommend split mattresses rather than a single king-size mattress. There's no real price difference either way. One reason I was given is that you have two sides with different firmness, which we don't need. Another reason I heard was that due to the smaller size, split mattresses are easier to lift and flip, which is needed periodically especially with the use of natural materials that need a little extra care.
I personally like the idea of a large mattress that is not split in the middle. But the point about flipping and regular care made me think. And what if I sleep in the middle of the bed by myself - would having a gap there not defeat the purpose of the cushy custom-fit bed? There's gonna be a topper on the mattress, but still. Yet most of the salespeople seem to try to push the idea of split mattresses. Any thoughts?
