Yes. This has been the situation for quite some time now. In markets (countries) where Audiobooks are available, Spotify has created a Basic subscription that is cheaper than Premium for those who don’t care/want audiobooks.

They announced this a few months back. They also have Premium Basic. Only existing Duo or Premium subscribers can downgrade to Basic plans—they don’t allow new sign-ups for basic plans.

I just got done with a hour long chat with support. I'm trying to switch our Premium Duo plan to a Basic Family Plan so I can add our kids and opt for a plan that doesn't include audio books to save money. After an hour between two people, they told me I can't "downgrade" my account to a Basic Family Plan.

Is anyone else dealing with this bullshit? I've been a premium subscriber for over ten years and I haven't complained even though podcasts and audiobooks have been forced on my subscription while fees continue to rise.

After all my loyalty, this may be the breaking point.

And they also told me there's no way to contact them via phone. I wanted to escalate my request. Does anyone know how to reach support via phonecall?

Just try canceling and resubscribing later ! Like that you are not downgrading - you are subscribing - may be it will work.

I changed my subscription from a premium individual to basic individual this morning no problem, I didn't see an option for basic on either duo or family plans only premium. Maybe you can only downgrade to a basic plan when you're account is a premium of that type?
