WebClient :: Spring Framework
Spring WebFlux includes a client to perform HTTP requests. WebClient has a functional, fluent API based on Reactor (see Reactive Libraries) which enables declarative composition of asynchronous logic without the need to deal with threads or concurrency.
How does the community like the fact that Spring 5 goes "reactive" for restful?
There is a ton of clients which are not reactive. Use the one you like. For example I've used Java's HTTP client. More on reddit.com
Spring WebClient vs RestTemplate
It would probably be good to know both - primarily because legacy codebase will be using restemplate, but look to use webclient for new projects (bonus points if you can convert applications from restemplate to webclient). As far as tutorials go, baeldung.com has generally very good tutorials for java and spring, and they even have one that talks about the differences https://www.baeldung.com/spring-webclient-resttemplate More on reddit.com
Spring WebClient best practice example.
I'd probably be looking into "serialization" (and deserialziation) options for Java and Spring. I don't know what the popular approach is, but the idea is that you can convert between JSON and proper objects and back. So instead of chaining through your JsonObject, you'd have a model class (or classes, if it's a nested object) and by deserializing the JSON, it would give you an instance of that object.

Nice work, this is very useful. Although I'm slightly surprised the Spring project hasn't added this already. I sometimes wonder how many folks don't realise that they're using HttpURLConnection under the hood, with all the quirky/buggy behaviour it brings. More on reddit.com

35. Calling REST Services with WebClient
If you have Spring WebFlux on your classpath, you can also choose to use WebClient to call remote REST services. Compared to RestTemplate, this client has a more functional feel and is fully reactive. You can create your own client instance with the builder, WebClient.create().
