In all seriousness though, I’d strongly suggest talking to local banks in your area and possibly a credit card broker. 2.5% + 10c isn’t awful if you’re dealing with a ton of Amex and discover cards but you are likely dealing with a ton of debit cards with pin access, which will be mountains cheaper with a more traditional pos / credit card system. Given the volume I can only imagine a liquor store has, there’s going to be some negotiating you can do to wiggle those rates down. Disclaimer, I use square and met a threshold with them to get a reduced rate. So I think it depends what you want to use it with. If you ae just looking to take payment for Trails End via the official App I'm not sure the terminal will work. The TE app for sure works for the dongle style and Bluetooth readers though. If you are trying to do more generic sales where it's linked to a pack controlled square account the terminal could be easier but it's also a LOT more expensive. It's also important to remember that the terminal still needs a WIFI connection, you can do offline sales but you have to ensure you are connecting it to the internet each day to sync the sales. To be honest the square reader is pretty darn simple to pair and the on screen instructions (both in the TE app and the Square app) are pretty good. The only issue I've had is finding how to start the process in TE, you could print/laminate some instructions for that though. If you're using the Square app on a phone, once the device is connected I'm pretty sure the rest of the experience is pretty much the same. Considering we need a credit card reader that is used by families a relatively few times times (under 20 weekends per year) a year I don't think our pack could justify a square reader, let alone multiple. For context the reader is $40 vs $250-300 for a Square Terminal. This is a terrible idea for most businesses to enable. Taking payments offline means the credit cards aren't being processed through a gateway. You are storing them for later authorization when your internet returns. You have no idea if the cards you are taking and storing are good or not. More on reddit.com
