Think of img2img as a prompt on steroids. Step 1: Find an image that has the concept you like. Maybe a pretty woman naked on her knees. It doesn't even have to be a real female, a decent anime pic will do. Step 2: After loading it into the img2img section, create a prompt that guides the SD to what you want, i.e. how that female should look. Step3: Change CFG 3.5 and Denoising strength .65 you do this to get different sometimes amazing results. Step4: Make 50 images and cross your fingers. To further clarify this greatness of this, you can also use img2img to turn anime pics you like to REAL ones if you use a model like uber porn from civit... website. This is especially useful because often anime type pics can do things you couldn't get real people to do voluntarily. lol Note that while I'm pron centric, this advice works for artsy froufrou creations as well. r/StableDiffusion on Reddit: What is img2img Option and What Can I Do With It?
October 14, 2022 -
So I've kind of gotten the hand at using Stable Diffusion properly, been testing the waters with some sci fi stuff and just backgrounds.
But now I am interested in this img2img portion of it. I assume it would change or at least alter images that I put into the paste section and use my prompts as the catalytic changes? However, the first time I tried it, it did nothing but give me random images so I do not know if I did something wrong or not.
How does it work and what does it actually do? Because I am really intrigued and would like to play around with images I already have.

When you make an image out of random latent noise it starts with something like this: But with img2img it starts by making the noise from the picture you supplied so the end result is more controlled by your starting image. You can control how much freedom it has with the denoise strength on the sampler, the lower the denoise the closer the end result will be to the starting image.

MimicPC - Img2Img in Stable Diffusion: A Comprehensive Guide and Performance Tips
This is the most valuable feature in Img2Img mode, in my opinion, because we can use it to create interesting effects like changing faces, clothes, or backgrounds. For example, if I select the girl’s clothes and provide a new description, I’ll get an image of the girl wearing different clothes, while everything else in the image stays the same. While Stable Diffusion’s Img2Img feature is incredibly versatile, it can sometimes be slow, especially when working with complex images or high-resolution outputs.
