Calculating standard deviation of grouped data with TI-84 Plus CE.
Standard deviation formula for groups of data
Do TI-84 Plus calculators give SD or SD+?
How to calculate the mean of grouped data?
- Determine the midpoint of each interval.
- Sum up all frequencies to obtain the number of samples.
- For each range of grouped data, multiply its midpoint by associated frequency. Add them all up.
- Divide this value by the number of samples.
What does standard deviation tell you?
What is the difference between standard deviation and variance?
Variance uses squares, whereas the standard deviation is expressed in the same units as the mean, so the latter is easier to interpret and use. However, you must calculate the variance to obtain the standard deviation.
How do we do it? The 84 Plus allows you to create a midpoint list and a frequency list. Then you can add both lists to the 1 variable calculation and it will calculate. I know this because it seems that all of the videos on the internet show it. The CE however, doesn't work that way. The CE doesn't allow you to put a comma between the lists and calculate them. It errors. If you add one list to the variable and one list as the freqlist, it errors. I'm at a loss. If any of you smart people can help, it would be awesome. Thanks!
