How Is Plywood Made?
Plywood is made from wood species such as spruce, pine and fir. When manufacturing plywood, each individual adjacent layer is rotated from 45-90 degrees so the wood grain is going in different directions in each layer, which improves strength and prevents warping. This is otherwise known as cross-graining, which means the growth lines are not adjacent to the long edge of the board. This adds to the strength of the finished product and explains its enduring popularity as a building product

Can Plywood Sheets Be Used Outside?
Our hardwood structural plywood can be used for exterior and interior applications, provided they are sealed correctly. External plywood board is a versatile material, the layers have a negligible core gap which limits the amount that can get into the plywood. It is moisture-resistant and water-resistant and is perfectly suited for structural tasks where occasional wetting may occur. We also carry marine plywood on our site which is even better suited to outdoor use. As is the case with all our materials, correct installation should be ensured in order for materials to work correctly.

r/woodworking on Reddit: Difference in plywood thickness
October 17, 2023 -
Sup guys, I need some more experienced opinions on a project I’m shopping for. My plans for a crafting desk call for 3/4 inch plywood sheets that I’ll end up drilling pocket holes into. The big orange store doesn’t sell 3/4 inch, the closest size is 23/32 inch. Are these functionally identical? Or is that 1/32 inch difference significant enough that I need to shop elsewhere? I’m using the kreg 720 jig if that matters.

You’ll be fine, won’t make a difference with pocket holes. Use them all the time with 23/32 which is pretty standard.

23/32" is standard thickness for S1S (sanded 1 side) 3/4" plywood. They take an actual 3/4" sheet and sand off 1/32". For pocket holes it doesn't matter but if you are dadoing you will want to use a 23/32" bit/blade. There are even router bits called 3/4" plywood bits that are actually 23/32".
