I'm trying to replicate a study in which they standardized an estimate as follows:
The standardization was accomplished by subtracting the mean of the distribution from each value and dividing by the standard deviation of the distribution.
How to create a formula/function?
I tried to do general normalization as follows, but I couldn't understand the above to change my code

you don’t need to write a function for this. scale() (which carries out standardisation) is inbuilt. use it like newcol = scale(oldcol).

Your function does a 'min-max normalization'. The standardization of what you quoted would be: standardize <- function(x) { ((x - mean(x,na.rm = T)) / sd(x,na.rm = T)) } The mean of the standardized data will be 0 and the standard deviation 1.
