Stephen King - Wikipedia
2 days ago - Bachman's surname is derived from the band Bachman–Turner Overdrive and his first name is a nod to Richard Stark, the pseudonym Donald E. Westlake used to publish his darker work. The Bachman books are grittier than King's usual fare; King called his alter-ego "Dark-toned, despairing...not a very nice guy." A Literary Guild member praised Thinner as "what Stephen King would write like if Stephen King could really write."

Does anyone know how King’s family life/childhood went?
As I read more of the community based books, I’m seeing a recurring theme of at least one violent husband/father per book… that’s how it feels anyway.
Did King experience that kind of upbringing, or is it purely because there was more wife beating in the periods his books are set?

If I recall correctly, his father wasn’t around much and it was just his mother and brother that he grew up with. He writes about how much respect he has for single mothers and that she often had to take low paying jobs like cleaning hotel rooms to support her family.

He touches on his childhood some in On Writing. I feel like even without personal experience, domestic abuse is a common horror trope (much like sexual assault or any other trauma).

The Kings were a typical family until one night, when Donald said he was stepping out for cigarettes and was never heard from again. Ruth took over raising the family with help from relatives. They traveled throughout many states over several years, finally moving back to Durham, Maine, in 1958. Stephen began his actual writing career in January of 1959, when David and Stephen decided to publish their own local newspaper named "Dave's Rag".
