Good flour grinder suggestions
Milling flour with a hand-crank mill is extremely slow and tedious. It takes so long, you can easily triple your effort for a single loaf of bread. I find the proposition completely untenable. Save up for the Mockmill. More on reddit.com

Who grinds their own grain and what type of mill do you own? Pros/cons
I have the kitchen aide attachment mill and I love it. From what I have been told it doesn't get the flour are fine as a mockmill but I don't seem to have a problem making 100% homemilled loves of bread. They only Con might be the expense of the whole grains but like I said I'm doing 100% my own stuff, most people I think use a 30/70 homemill to store bought blend or something like that. The flavor is phenomenal. I personally am addicted to Kamut loaves right now. More on reddit.com

Do you recommend buying a grain mill for the home and if so, how difficult is it to find whole grains?
I’ve been grinding my own flour for 22 years now. Love the freshness of the flour. Here’s a list of my experience: grain lasts a LOT longer than already ground flour. freshness is unparalleled the KitchenAid Grain Mill attachment seriously sucks, avoid at all costs unless you want it for making cream of wheat (very coarse grind) my first mill was a KitchenMill, good but didn’t last as long as I thought it should’ve. second mill I got was the NutriMill Harvest Grain Mill, absolutely excellent and decently priced, watch for sales at big holidays. They seriously stand behind their products. Their customer service is outstanding. No I’m not getting paid for this, hahah. I buy grain in 25 lb bags from Amazon nowadays since grain is more scarce than it used to be in New Mexico. I buy Hard Red Spring Wheat for its higher gluten content for breads, and buy Soft White Winter Wheat for making tortillas. More on reddit.com

Salzburg grain mills with granite millstone & wooden chamber
This is extremely good news to me because the whole grain bread I was making either from milling with the Komo mill or purchasing stone ground flour from the store, David did not care for. And this bread - Made from Flour milled from the Salzburg Mill - he really likes! He will eat this!!! Yay! He would take a bite or two of the other whole Grain bread I made, but he would never eat a whole slice. Don’t you think this is very good news! I do! Thank you again! Britta ... I have owned an MT5 ED grinder for a few months now and I can say that the grinder is TIP TOP.

May 1, 2025 - Most stone mill designs are on-demand style (meaning you can mill your flour into whatever bowl you’d like to use and easily add or take away wheat berries as it’s milling), and most impact mills on the market are closed-canister style milling (meaning you add the wheat berries and they go into an attached canister where you won’t see the flour until it’s done milling and you remove the canister and lid).

February 11, 2022 - High-quality flour is best milled just prior to use. While the Nutrimill can grind large amounts of flour, the hopper holds only a few cups of wheat kernels at a time.I grind a small batch of flour just for the recipe I am making.

Gristmill - Wikipedia
2 weeks ago - The milled grain (flour) is collected as it emerges through the grooves in the runner stone from the outer rim of the stones and is fed down a chute to be collected in sacks on the ground or "meal floor". A similar process is used for grains such as wheat, to make flour, and for maize, to make corn meal.
