As others have mentioned, it really depends on the intended usage mostly in regards to output power and white light quality. RGB can't produce white, it can only make colors. Actual white light is a full spectrum which adding R+G+B together can't do. If you'd go RGBW or RGBCCT that's solved but then there is a problem of white light quality still. The CRI or RA value of the light. This needs to be a decent CRI90 (not tricked) but preferred even higher, values such as the R9 value are important. And even when that would be ok, there is the light output. Digitally addressable strips often just aren't that bright, the little controllers on there can only handle so much. Dumb analog PWM lighting can go much brighter. Now if this is purely a bedroom, using some ws2805 for instance, which has a fair CRI90 and dual white LEDs would work I'd think. But if you want to do something that requires a decent amount of light, working on a project, reading a book for a while, etc. Etc. You'll likely want more light... are you gonna set it up behind the bed or for like the ceiling? cos you’ll be needing a longer strip for the ceiling. and it would cost a lot if going with Phillps Hue or something like that. imo you can find cheaper light strips at Amazon. they work as good as the premium ones with decent coverage and colours. plus i wouldn’t advice leaning towards those led lights that come with app control. cos those apps are useless anyways. slow connectivity and sometimes they stop working after a few updates. but for some who still wanna feel fancy with an app, then Govee works and the app is kinda smooth (v rare). but then the prices for these are also ridiculous. and there is not that much difference in the lighting. you’re just basically paying more for the app interface which doesn’t matter that much imo. although the cheaper ones wouldn’t last that long. but they’re already cheap so just replace them a few times over. you’re still gonna save money compared to buying the premium ones. You didn’t mention how many meters of LED strips you are planning, but I guess the short answer is “yes”. With enough of them there is no reason you couldn’t get to a good illumination level. The trick will be good placement. Think about an office with a ceiling grid full of fluorescent tubes (or LEDs). Plenty of light and good for productivity, but fairly flat and harsh as well. Not something most people would want in their bedroom. Even with diffusers, LED strips are pretty directional. On the other hand if you use a combination of direct and indirect (ie bounce off walls and ceilings) lighting, you can achieve different ambiance. Do an image search for “LED cove lighting” and also for “plaster in LED tape to get some ideas of how to make this workable. More on reddit.com

I'm intending to remove the ceiling light and use around 15m of fcob RGB led strips as the light source. I've heard that this isn't a good idea, but no explanation was offered.
I'd mainly be using it as warm white or neutral white, with the option to change colours as and when and have individual zones. The strips themselves will be hidden and installed as a form of indirect lighting.

It's probably only considered not a good idea if you want a lot of light. It won't exactly fill the room with light so you'll have to bear that in mind.

I have been wondering what are the best led strips for my ceiling. I am going to do an cloudy sky on my ceiling with led strips and cotton. Philips hue is bit out of my price range. The leds should preferrably be 5 meters and should be able to be controlled via an app.

I'm planning to get some double row LED strips and some aluminium profiling and use them to light both my office and bedroom.
Will they be bright enough themselves, or will I need other lighting too?
They say 10lm per LED, with 120 LED's/meter, and the rooms are around 4m X 3m.

For ambient lighting, maybe. I have 1M of 3258 type WW strip that provided some light (still there, but graduated to a smart bulb), ran through the indicator bulb on a 12V automotive strip (makes it comfortably usable). For task/work light, standard fixtures.
