March 26, 2024 - I have a submersible well pump 2 wire with a ground. The pressure switch points burned out on one side so I changed it.
Well pump not running but has power
Your pump is probably shot if everything else is working but that, mine did the same thing last year, tried to find something else wrong but it just ended up needing a new pump. More on reddit.com

Drop in Amps indicates no load, no load on a deep submerged pump indicates no water at pump intake, shutting it off for a few minutes allows the water to refill the bottom of the well and then it can fill up the tank. This may be due to a clogged intake screen, if the water is hard, cleaning the screen with acid should fix it. Otherwise the filter screen ( also called the Well Point ) will have to be replaced, both possible solutions require a well person with the proper truck and equipment for a well which is that deep. Limit your water usage until you can get the service done. PS: don’t let the pump run for an excessive period of time if it is not moving water, it may overheat and damage the pump. Any well pump guys here? I have a problem and could use some help.
Well technician here. Like some of the other guys have said: make sure that the air in your pressure tank is set properly (2 PSI below cut-in pressure) first off. If the pump is 10 years old it could be on its last legs. 17 amps is extremely high draw for a 0.50 HP. Might be that one of the thrust bearings in the motor is going bad or that the impeller stack is chewed to ratshit and is causing a bunch of extra resistance. The thermal overload switch will kick on also if for example the pump isn't getting water past the motor to cool it and is side-drawing (if the pump is set right inside the well screen this is a likely possibility). Best bet would be to pull it and test it on dry land, but I'm thinkin' she's about pooched by the sound of it. There isn't much to rebuild in a submersible pump that size so I'd plan on replacing it. Franklin's Schaefer, FPS, and (whichever the third one is) are all decent. I sell Berkeley almost exclusively, but I'll install the occasional Grundfos SQE 3" pump as well as the Franklin offerings if the application calls for it. Goulds is also very good. November 9, 2023 - Starting above the well, with the power off and the leads disconnected measure each hot lead to ground using an insulation resistance meter or megger. A bad reading above ground could be due to either the wire or motor. Use the provided chart from the manufacturer to determine the condition of the wire and motor. A voltage test can typically help this issue as the cause, though some states require a licensed electrician to perform this test. When a submersible pump is delivering little or no liquid, consider these potential causes.

January 23, 2022 -
So my well pump is not running. The gauge is at 0 psi. Using a hotstick I can see that the wires to the pump get power when I manually flip the pressure switch, but the pump never comes on. I can hear the relay click in the pump controller when I flip the pressure switch and that is when the wires to the pump get power.
It has been cold(20-35°F) but the pump house has a heater and feels warm. I don’t think anything above ground is frozen.
Could the pump or the well be frozen below ground? How would I go about checking that and what should my next steps be if everything seems to be working except for the actual pump?

October 12, 2017 - Normally, there will be a splice connection at the top of the well between the submersible cable and the UF or THHN, where the wire enters the home, and between the pump motor and the submersible cable. Obviously, the connection at the pump motor can’t be checked unless the pump is pulled out of the well. 6. Check the Pump and Motor. If the troubleshooting in the 5 steps above do not resolve your problem, it may be time to replace the pump and motor.

August 24, 2020 - Instead, I have a start of 20 amps and then it decreases to 16 amps before turning off. This means that my pump is working extra hard to move water which indicates a bad impeller, bearing, line blockage, or bad check valve. Step 7: Check the check valve. To do this, you must pull the submersible well pump.
